Default are you expecting to get back all of your money invested in dvc when you sell?

ignoring inflation.

example: purchase vwl for $75 in today's dollars, do you expect to get at least $75 in future dollars back when you sell, i.e., do you feel your "principle" is safe in the long run.

this held true for me when i sold okw after about seven years and based on market values seems to be the case for my vwl, bcv, akv, and bwv points. even during the great recession, my points seemed to be holding most of their initial value. some are even up from my purchase price now.

No plans to sell whatsoever, so nope.

Are you counting the value you have gotten from using them or renting them out? Or just purchase price versus selling price?

just purchase price versus selling price...ignore everything else including inflation. pay $75 today, do you expect to get back $75 when you sell?

if so, all that enjoyment stuff, rental income...is just "interest gravy" on your principle.

Me neither. If I die, I die. Doesn't make much difference at that point anyway.

well, the estate will sell and be distributed to charities in my case. i would like to think they will be worth something when i'm gone. at the moment i don't buy into the declining value based on the years remaining. i think i could always get the "$75" - part of my "net worth."

but i may be wrong...in fact, it may be time to sell now while the market is good.

Of course it will decline based on years remaining. No one is going to pay 75 a point wit 10 years left and maintaince fees three times asking high. We are under 30 years for 2042 resorts and I think those start to decline at a good pace. In 5 years they will be less than SS. In my opinion.

As of right now, if I sold I could get back more than the money I have put in so far. I bought my BLt direct and can sell it for more now than when I bought it. I bought my VWL for $59 pp a couple for years ago, my AKL for $70 pp last year.....I can sell each of these for more than I bought them for, and have years of use.

However, I have no plans to sell any of my points.

i disagree. in 2032, i believe i can still get back my initial $75...albeit it will be worth much less because of inflation, i.e., my principle will still be intact.
