Default MagicBand Teardown

Well, the engineer in me got the better of me. I decided to grab my tools and go after one of my MagicBands. Sorry, Mickey.

The unsuspecting MagicBand:

Minus the resizing ring:

Mickey symbol removed, RFID tag exposed (there was an antenna down the side of the band):

The Bluetooth low energy chip, battery, and bottom flex circuit board:

The top circuit board with RFID tag:

The RFID tag and the battery for the Bluetooth:

Positive battery contact, Bluetooth supporting circuit:

Bluetooth low energy chip, substrate:

And finally, the Bluetooth low energy chip (Nordic Semiconductor nRF24LE1, 4x4 mm, 24 pin QFN).

I need a hobby...

Interesting. Did you learn anything by taking it apart? Any hidden surprises that you didn't realize?

My DH did this when we got home a month ago. It was driving him nuts wondering just what was in there too.

Exciting and scary at the same time. The technology in this little band is like big brother. My kids were at Be Our Guest for lunch and the server located us without the rose, but with our magic bands and that shocked them. To them, it was like someone was following them or tracking them and knows where they were at all the time.

Darn, I've got 4 bands sitting here and those aren't the batteries I need.

Uh Oh, now you did it. Disney goons will be knocking down your door any minute. This time your wrist won't do and they'll plant that chip directly in your brain. Nobody messes with Disney marketing collection and gets away with it!
