Default Annual Pass - buy from UT and then upgrade?

I am going to be in the World 12 days over the next year so I am thinking about getting an Annual Pass. I am a DVC member. I haven't had an AP before but in my research I believe that the most economical method to purchasing an AP is the following:

1) Buy the 6-day MYW+hopper from Undercover tourist at $324.95
2) Go to a WDW park and go to Guest relations and request to update the 6-day MYW hopper to an AP (include the DVC discount which is $453 incl tax).
3) Disney will apply the price of the 6-day MYW hopper ($356.78) to the AP upgrade
4) I pay $96 difference and have an AP

Has anyone done this in the last several months? I have read various stories where the CMs don't know how to do this or will only give you credit for the UT price.

I just did it with 3 in July We used it and on our 2nd day went and upgraded the one(DHS as that's where I went) and then did the other 2 ( DTD GS ) later that day .

We got ours from UCT before the Price Bump so saved even a bit more as they did give us Gate price on it. 1st CM had some issues but another stepped in and Created a 2nd MYW ticket to get it to gate price before upgrading to the DVC PAP.

The DTD CM just went right on and did it as I think they deal with it more down there.

I also heard after you use the Ticket you could Lose it (but make sure you have the Numbers on back , We always take picture of them) and that would Upgrade it to a regular Gate price ticket.

Do not confuse breaking the rules to save money with finding ways to save money that are within the rules.

Disney states that if one has purchased a pass from an authorized outlet that the value of the pass (based on the Disney selling price) is applied when it is exchanged (or upgraded) for another pass.

I read this somewhere, official, recently. I do not remember the exact working or the exact location where I read this.

Interesting as I was told by a Ticketing CM that just the past few years they went with the You only get applied what you paid as their new system sees exactly what and who you paid. They are overriding it by swapping it to new media before doing the Upgrade and they really don't have to do that . It all depends on the CM you get.

Don't forget that you have to first use the ticket (enter a park) then go back out to guest relations and upgrade. If you upgrade before you use the ticket you won't get the full ticket price (you get the price of what Disney sold the ticket to UT to or something like that).

We did this last Oct and it worked like a charm!

This comment strikes me as a bit of a cheap shot at best.

Considering your thread was unequivocally asking if you could get away with something you clearly know is against Disney requirements and policy, nevertheless that very long thread remained civil throughout. It would be courteous if you were to extend the same consideration to others.

For those looking for more details, Cheshire Figment is a knowledgeable ticketing CM, and has been kind enough to keep Disney fans apprised of the current regulations (most current update, 07/2012). You can find the info here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1452684 The info is quite detailed and has been found to be quite reliable. The procedure for taking advantage of upgrading tickets from third party sellers is outlined within this thread.

If you think calling me a troll is "civil" then I guess we have different opinions of being "civil" to one another. I was asking in my initial thread if I could share some of the meals with my DH because the other plans they offer do not suit our needs. Not to "rip off" Disney. I have TIW and very shortly after my intitial post I said that better suited our needs. And don't get my started with ethics...how many people use those stupid mugs over and over again. I NEVER have ever re-used any of mine. Or used them initially for that matter they get more use at home. DONE
