If you're looking at the long game, renting could be a very viable option and your circumstances could change in a way that gives you more opportunity to enjoy your points yourself.

If you want memories with your grandson while he's still young, at least there are still ways to enjoy Disney with your proceeds and have a great time. You could still have the DVC magic by renting points from another member, or you could have a lot of fun experiencing Disney in different ways through the cash resorts.

Whatever decision you make, I hope it makes your burden lighter. And you have us, so you're never alone!

So well said.
Once again this board shows how amazing and caring you all are. Smart too!
Best wishes in whatever you choose to do, Mickey.

We have discussed selling but I'm not ready to give up on my dreams just yet so we will bank our points and rent if we have to.
Lots of and best wishes for you both!

Thank you all for your replies. I did think about renting out some points. I have 170 VWL points. With the dues being so much I would have to rent 100 to pay the dues leaving me with 70 a year or if I did the trip every two years 140. Not very many anymore with the change in points. I used to get a few weeks in studios because I checked in on Sunday and out on Friday, then stayed somewhere off property for the weekends.
I also thought about the discount on annual passes but if I go less I won't need one. I have had an AP since 2000 when pin trading started.
As to the Big CA, it was cancer. I do feel lucky, I was stage 3 grade 3 which is bad but not as bad as stage 4 grade 0. I had a 79% chance of NOT surviving and here I am today almost 8 years later. But the chemo I had was one of the toughest and caused neuropathy (numbness) in my hands so I can't work as a nurse anymore.
I used to own 100 SSR point also but I sold them when I became sick since I had just purchased and had only used it once. I broke even with that sale.
I was doing ok until two of my son's lost jobs. They were helping me out with bills until then, but there are no jobs here in CT so one joined the Marines and one joined the Army. So I am in danger of losing my house now so having a DVC is a frivolity that I don't need right now.
I have the papers and haven't sent them in yet so I will do some numbers crunching and see if I can keep it but it just doesn't seem like it is the right thing to do right now.

So sorry to hear about your situation. Hopefully things will get better and you'll be able to continue enjoying your visits. If renting out your points seems to be too much of a burden, there are lots of folks here who would be glad to rent you the points you need for a vacation with your grandson.
Good luck to you. Please check in occasionally and let us know how you're doing.

VWL is a desirable location and if you did one rental at the 11 month mark you should be able to get $12/point which means you don't have to rent out half your points. Then if you stayed at OKW in a studio you could maximize how many days you had on site.

Wishing you all the best

Well thought out and well said and I am sure there are plenty of people here willing to help you with the rental process if you so chose. And i must say 140 points every 2 years is not to shabby.

Best of luck with your decision.

I hope you decide to rent and keep on owning, It may seem like a hassle right now but I think it is the prudent thing to do if you want to continue to visit the world.

Again, prayers and hugs!

I would think seriously about rental in your situation, unless you really need the cash now. If you rent through a broker like David's Vacation Club Rentals or another one who posts here regularly, you'll like rent all your points which would cover your fees and give you cash - maybe for a trip, maybe to stockpile for next year's fees so you could use all your points at once, or however.

Thanks be for your improved health. I hope that financial said comes to better focus for you as well. At least you are thoughtful and proactive, which means you'll make the right decision for you.

Dirk
