Default Giraffes & Lake Norman, NC-Video Added!

We took a quick trip up to Lake Norman, North Carolina (about 30 minutes from Charlotte) and I thought I'd share a few photos.

I'll do the best part first: We took a trip to the Lazy 5 Ranch, where you can take a horse-drawn wagon ride through their preserve and feed the animals. It was a blast! Our favorites were the giraffes-the wagon pulled right up to their fence and we hung out with them for about 10 minutes-they've always been my favorite animals and getting to pet an 18 foot giraffe on the face and get nuzzled by one was incredible!

All DD11 wanted to do was feed the newborn giraffe named Patrick (he was born on Saint Patty's Day):

Lazy 5 to be continued...

How neat! I only live 2 hours from Lake Norman. I need to go there some time.

DH's favorite animals were the giant water buffaloes that walked up to the cart and opened their ENORMOUS mouths (they had purple tongues!) and just waited for you to pour the food in :

I'm not going to do this TR in any sort of linear fashion-so here are some photos of Lake Norman. It's about 35 miles long, and we took a riverboat lunch cruise one day to look at all the houses and scenery:

The weather had been unbearably hot, so the clouds were a welcome change and allowed us to sit up top the whole time and catch the breeze.

We rented a cottage on the lake and did a lot of sunset swimming:

Today we went to an antique car museum. Since the Lake Norman area is home to the birthplace of NASCAR, there were a TON of Nascar things to do and see.

Ironically, we're not NASCAR fans (go fast, turn left, I don't get it ), but we still totally enjoyed the museum:

I loved this old Volvo, it reminds me of a Flex:

When I saw this, I tried to buy it from the museum, but they weren't selling! I've been hunting on ebay now...

For those of you who've seen the movie Days of Thunder, this is the barn they used in the movie:

It was a great trip, and it's a beautiful part of the world up there!

Oh, one last thing-the weather finally caught up to us on the way home (ha ha, outsmarted it for the most part this trip!) and this is a freaky cool picture of a coal burning plant nearby. It has a massive 6 BILLION dollar scrubber on it, so what you're seeing is steam, not pollution:

I have a relative who works there and my daughter got to feed Patrick from an over sized baby bottle when we were there. It was a major accomplishment for her. I was quite an experience petting a giraffe, one that I'll never forget.

We are not too far from Lake Norman, but I had never heard of the Lazy 5 Ranch--just may need to check it out.

Loved that license tag shot.
