Internet connection was terrible at ALV Jambo, BCV and VWL while we were there. Everyting points to not enough bandwidth. It worked much better last June and November.

Between the predictable "Disney IT will screw this up, no matter what" plus the explosion in popularity of streaming services, what a fiasco. |

This is DH:
I can say that Disney is not the only company to experience this same effect when going from a restricted guest internet to an open one. My company thought that due to a present use of an average of 50 users at any one time (while restricted) we would only need around 400 when opened up. We hit that wall pretty quick and are now hitting another wall with over 1,200 (with new guest internet servers). Any time we max out, we experience similar connectivity issues. The product is licensed based, which means that its more of a cost issue instead of a real connectivity issue. I'd guess that the same thing is happening at Disney. Since Disney doesn't charge for this service, it becomes harder to justify a large scale wireless network expansion. I see the cause of this is due to a plethora of tablets and smartphones, which will try to connect automatically (each using a license). This means that practically every guest would need a license. The flip side is that they might have a license free product (we plan to migrate to one that integrates with our Cisco wireless equipment) and just don't have the capacity to handle the load described. They most probably have data caps turned on for each connection, but that is so they don't have thousands of netflix connections eating all the bandwidth (we do the same). |

Youtube and everything else video related is now blocked at work just to preserve bandwidth. I can see that if everyone is downloading movies it's going to slow down the system.
By the way, every time I see the title of this thread I want to post "yeah, there's too many stupid people on it".

I know we started discussing this in November but don't think there was ever a final answer. Since putting wifi in have they dumped the ability to wire in? I'm assuming all the issues are with the wifi connections?

So no point in me bringing my wireless router this week then? We had awful service at WL in December, so I was hoping to go back to the wired this time around at Jambo. We had real issues holding onto the wifi using the iPad in particular.

I think I would rather pay a fee for an internet connection, than have one that is not reliable.
I liked the wired connection, I am bummed that it is gone. My connection to work is such, that even a blip in connectivity means I have to re-enter credentials, and re-start any sessions to specific applications. The internet fee on the cruise ship was so high, that I avoided connecting for a full week. I managed just fine. If my employer had needed me, they would have paid for the connection. IF Disney is going to deliver things like check out documentation, via email, they do then have some obligation to provide a reliable network. |
