What type of GAC card would be issued to the parents of a child with Autism?

If the condition is bad enough, card 2.

My daughter actually qualifies for a GAC but, we have yet to ever get one. If we felt the lines would be too long to stand in we would get a FP in most cases. She has Sensory Processing Disorder and standing in line not only causes her issues I know others around us get tired of hearing me telling her not to hang on the rope, chain, railing, not to put her mouth on things, to give others space, etc... She is 6 and it is hard for her to stand more than a few minutes. If I can get in and out of line with her I do that but, I do not like to be that person that cuts ahead to catch up in a line. So it is one that is outside that I can meet up with my husband when he gets closer we do that but, for those that I can't do that we have to do our best to keep her in line.

I plan to bring a diagnosis from our pedi for our June trip in case I find all the lines to be long. We usually travel in the value season. Again I would only be using it for lines over 20min and ones I can't get a FP for. When she gets over stimulated it is hard to get her back on track so I try to limit things such as long lines that tend to overstimulate her.

You just made me crack up. When the twins were babies I spent many a sweaty day with one or both in the infant carriers. The best is when you can use a backpack and they can rub all sorts of stuff in your hair.

Default Card 2 is a life saver

We have used it for our daughter and it is wonderful. She has autism and waiting in line becomes dangerous when she gets frustrated and starts punching herself in the face.

I understand preventing abuse of the card, but I hope they keep its original purpose intact.

We used one of those on a recent trip. My sister-in-law is just about 40, but has a debilitating back condition. To look at her, you would have no idea - very slim, fit and appearing in great shape. She just can't stand (or walk) for long periods. We rented an ECV for her. At rides, she would use the GAC and walk through the FP line. We were actually the very first people on TSM that day

Even though it was all legit, it felt kinda "taking advantage" to use it as well. We did, and I even told her that we liked having her since she was our "unlimited fast pass," but I could see just how easy it would be to abuse.

Cheers.

The card takes all of about 5 minutes to get when you arrive at the park. Building up her tolerance is a good idea if she can handle it. If she can't, use the card and don't apologize for it. The point of the card is so that disabled people can enjoy Disney as much as able bodied people.

I took my mom last month and this is what we were told. Mom has a cane and when we went to get the GAC we were told that we didn't need one as long as she had the cane, that was her pass. At Soaring I ask a CM where mom should go to get on the ride. He said that all of DCA is ADA compliant and we had 3 options. 1. Just get in the normal line. 2. Use fast pass 3. He would give us a pass to return in the time the reg line is ie. if the line is 45min then they give you a pass to return in 45 min, but they made it clear that you would still have to wait in the fast pass line.
A few weeks later we tried to get mom a pass to return to Star Tours from the CM there and she told us to get in line and have mom go sit some Place and meet us in line later, but you know how it is crazy there and there was no place to sit. So as we were looking around and talking and trying to figure out what to do another CM came up and asked if we need help. After I told her that mom could not stand in that long of a line and we didn't know what to do she said oh I will give you a pass to come back in 45min. Any way that is how it went for us.

Thanks it is hard with others can't see a visual disablitity. My friend posted about SPD on her blog recently after looks and others giving their 2 cents on how to control her son. http://ravenschixchat.blogspot.com/2...-handicap.html
