Default We Just Got Our Passports-Where Would You Go?

Dh and I decided that the girls were now old enough (9 & 11) to take some "bigger" trips and we renewed our passports (mine had my photo from when I was 19 and my maiden name, lol), and got new passports for the girls.

They just came in the mail on Friday!

So, if you had two daughters who'd never been out of the US before, where would you go over the summer on a family vacation?

Dh and I have been to Europe, Russia, Japan, and the Caribbean already, so we're not total travel idiots, but it was in our pre-kid days, so we are looking for people who've been there done that with kids our age and have some good ideas and also places to avoid.

I don't suppose we can use our DVC points at Disneyland Paris???

Of course you can! http://www.mouseowners.com/info/show...=146&catid=143

Not claiming it's a good deal since it's in the "Disney Collection", but you can use them.

Yes you can! I don't think you can book extremely far out though - a few months. And I also believe you have to buy length of stay park passes. The charts for the hotels are under the Disney Collection on the member website.

Sounds exciting!

I don't have any kids, but I know you can use your DVC points at DLP. They would become reservationg points. It would be like booking at the DLH or the Poly. Now as to whether or not it is worth it cost wise instead of renting and paying cash, I am not sure.

We travel overseas with our kids a fair bit (aged 7 and 8 now) and this summer we are going to Europe with them (mostly England, Switzerland and Italy).

So far - we've mostly explored European countries, Australia, and of course - lots of Canada.

We've decided to give them each a project to do when they each reach grade 4 (so, this September for my daughter, and 2012 for my son). They'll each be given a budget, and will plan the whole family vacation using that budget (so everything from transport, accommodation, activities, food etc). They're not allowed to go over budget, but can use the money however they want - as long as it includes everything. My daughter has already decided she wants to go to Peru (wants to see Machu Pichu) so she has already started her scrapbook with ideas, with the intention of planning it properly in the fall.

Our son, Jordan, although two years early has decided he REALLY wants to go to...(drum roll)...JORDAN! He's dead set on this. When we were at Epcot in January, after spending a week of checking out each country (we'd do one each evening - dinner and the cultural experience, usually followed by the kids trying on whatever they could etc). Anyway - towards the end of our trip, he asked me why Jordan wasn't one of the countries, and I told him that only a few were. But then I asked him - of all the countries, which did he think would be most like Jordan? Without skipping a beat, he said, "Morocco"! Not bad given he was still 6.

Anyway - the point of my rambling prose here, was just to suggest shaking it up a bit and giving the kids a chance to plan at least a day of the trip if not more. For our Europe trip this year, we'll be giving the kids a day each to plan completely (figured it would be a nice warm-up for the big project). I can't wait to see what they come up with!

Happy travelling!

I'd suggest somewhere real and not a timeshare so that you get to experience the actual there. I vote for Europe (we love it there and go 3-4 times per year). For a first trip, I would suggest Italy. Don't try to go too many places. While it's not my favorite, Rome is a must for the first-time visitor. Then I'd suggest Florence and Tuscany. There is much to do there, especially if you have a car. Oh yeah, they have wine in Italy as well

Cheers.

I love trips that speak about religion.... how about Rome, Greece, or Egypt? These are on my list!
