Default Pic's of Mickey Tie Dye Shirts

I just finished making Mickey shirts for our trip next week to WDW. Thought you all might like to see them. I made 12 total (the number in our group).

These are the shirts for our family:

Those are amazing! Are there instructions out there somewhere? I don't know if I have the creative talent to actually make one, but I'd love to know the how-to!

You can go to youtube.com and search Mickey tie dye shirts..and you can watch a video of how to do it. The only difference is they teach you the swirl tie dye and I did the bulls eye. That has to do with how you fold the shirt and the place of the rubberbands. I first learned about these shirts from Tammy...here on mouseowners..

Here are the basic directions:

1. make a mickey head pattern from a plate and cups (whatever size you like)
2. trace on 100% cotton tee's.
3. use wax dental floss as thread and sew a basting stich around your mickey head
4. pull strings, pulling out the mickey head fabric to be up and tie tightly. Put a rubber band tightly below the dental floss
5. now this is where you need to know if you are going to do a swirl or bulls eye design: for swirl you lay the shirt flat and start twisting the mickey head until the shirt is in a round. use 3-4 rubber bands to hold it together..it looks like a wagon wheel. FOr bulls eye: hold the mickey head in your hand and let the rest of the shrit hang down to where it is like a snake. Put rubber bands every few 2-3 inches. You can do 3-4 sections, depending on how many rings you want around the Mickey head.
6. Soak teeshirts in soda ash (can buy at joann's) for 20 minutes.
7. I used a Tulip tie dye kit also from joann's...it came with 3 colors and bottles, rubber bands and gloves.
8. use dye on the mickey head and keep it from getting another color on it...either cover it with wrap or just be careful. put dye on the next section between rubber bands...how much dye you put will determine how much white will be on the shirt... I did not want a lot of white, so I used more than normal.
9. wrap in plastic, a garbage bag etc. and let sit for 6-8 hours
10. rinse in cold water until no more dye comes out, take out the rubber bands and cut the dental floss and pull out.
11. wash in machine on cold and dry

And, you have mickey shirts

Thanks all...they turned out better than I expected them to!!

I wish I would of taken pictures as I did them...did not even think about it. I was just so excited they turned out.....it took me about 4 1/2 hours to do them...the sewing took the longest...especially since I did 12 at the same time.

It was worth it!! And, I will be super happy when I see the pictures from our trip!!
