I tried to make a go of it...I really did. It's topical certainly and several friends/neighborhood kids play the game. Again, I'll never take away from the athleticism involved...these guys are incredible. But I'd rather watch paint dry, t-ball with none of my own kids involved, shop with my DW, whatever.

I am not and will not be a fan...sorry to all the futbol fans of the world but this game is boring for me and I will not convert.

To each their own! I love soccer, and have virtually no interest in baseball, football, or hockey (minor exception for OSU Buckeyes), which is why I spend so little time on this thread.

You should enlighten us with your knowledge of Soccer. Like my son's friend who played college soccer, said the the one on one score that Donavan did for the USA the other day was a real impressive shot, because most people can't stay so calm and get a good shot away.

I also have little to no interest in soccer. I included it with hockey. Not that there isn't action or the participants athletic enough. I don't know enough about the game, know the rules, follow the flow, or understand the gameplans involved. I also have enough other interests not to take the time (yet) to learn.
That said.... Go Blue!! and what about those Lions this year???

It's so much easier to appreciate any game if you understand the strategies and gameplay, and especially if you've played it yourself. I was fortunate to play amateur soccer in Seattle back in the 70's with a number of Brits, and learned quite a bit from them. I was a big Cleveland Browns fan for many years (back to the Lou Groza-Jim Brown era) but was completed turned off from pro football when they moved to Baltimore.

I played college basketball..back a few year..hmmmmmmm

anyway, when I started playing soccer in my mid-20s the game "thinks" much like basketball if you understand motion basketball.

Ball goes to the open zone and it is up to your teammate to be in the right spot or to get there. The one on one stuff is pretty much not much of the game usless a guy gets a ball in space and then can beat a couple of guys.

Futbol is a beautiful game if you know what to watch for....

But as was said on another board I frequent...as long as guys roll around acting like they are hurt and then the minute they are off the field (from the stretcher) get up and run back on, Americans are not likley to support it. Just not american "minded" so to speak...
