Default Understanding New Borrowing Rules

Wondering if I can ask for some clarification. Our big family trip is suppose to be 2nd week of November, 2021, which means I need to book next month in December. The reservation will need 205 points. Here's where I need clarification....
As far as available points, I have the following (Use Year is February):

Use Year 2020 - 0
Use Year 2021 - 171
Use Year 2022 - 160
Use Year 2023 - 160

With the new rule of only being able to borrow 50%, does that mean I have to wait until February 1st to use my entire 171 points and borrow the additional 34 points then? Or can I use my entire "Use Year 2021" points this December, as the reservation and Use Year are in the same year of 2021 and wouldn't be considered borrowing? I just always get the Use Year definition mixed up and don't want to lose the reservation due to not following the restrictions.

The latter. It's not actually borrowing. The 171 Feb/21 points are all current UY for booking a Nov/21 trip. You could also borrow half of your Feb/22 points if needed..

Thanks so much! That's what I was thinking, but again always second guessing myself.

The main point to remember is that you never have to wait for your UY to start to use points. You may always book at the 11 month and 7 month window. Then the question is just what points you can use and that is based on the date of your stay and not on the date you are booking. Nov 21 stay with a Feb UY then you can use banked 2020 points, current 2021 points and borrow up to 50% of your 2022 points for that reservation.

I am wondering how long they will keep this rule for the 50%? Is it just for 2021?

Anyone else find a bit odd that they will only allow you to borrow up to 50%, but will allow you to buy one time use points above that?

Probably until the glut of points are used up one way or another. I would think for all of 2021 and possibly beyond.

Thanks for the clarifications, I hadn’t paid much attention to the 50% borrowing rule.

Can I ask, I have 26 points banked into my 2020 points, December use year. Do these points need to be used before next December 1st? That’s how I understand it, but not entirely sure.

Obviously I never bank, am always borrowing.

Yes, they will need to be used for a reservation no later than the night of Nov 30th 2021.
