Default Another Cruise Outbreak

I would say cruising is toast until there is a vaccine.

One of the first ships to resume cruising is having a COVID outbreak

Quote:
All four of the hospitalized crew members had been sick for several days while on board the vessel, and all four had been placed in isolation. But the line said their symptoms weren’t consistent with COVID-19. They only tested positive for the illness after the ship docked in Tromsø early Friday.

It’s unclear if the crew members are seriously ill or only are being hospitalized as a way to keep them isolated.

The entire ship has now been placed in isolation, and all remaining crew — around 160 people — are being tested for COVID-19. The line also is tracking down 177 passengers who left the ship early Friday to alert them to the outbreak.
This is a shame because Hurtigruten only booked passengers from select countries and took many precautions.

Quote:
Hurtigruten had implemented a wide range of new health and safety measures on Roald Amundsen and the other ships it brought back into operation, including enhanced cleaning, added medical screenings for passengers and crew and an end to buffets. All the vessels were operating at a sharply reduced capacity, below 50% of normal, to ensure social distancing.
If they can't do it, I don't see anybody being able to cruise.

Dirk

Yeah, this just does not seem do-able. This virus is sneaky and determined. Even Hong Kong which seemed to have it under control is losing its grip. There will be no going back to normal until there is better treatment/vaccine.

I was just reading this story on TPG website! I was also reading how RCCL is changing their Muster process.

*Welp* Guess that settles my poll. No Member Cruise for me in June 2021.

I would go to WDW way before I'd step on a cruise ship right now. And I absolutely love cruising (and am quite willing to go to WDW).

There is absolutely zero way to make sure anybody who steps on board is not a COVID carrier.

We're just getting hit with too much evidence that indoors in close quarters isn't good. And I certainly don't want to spend the entirety of a cruise masked.

I'm sure they have a ride-out crew just to keep everything operational.

I read about a strange fishing boat COVID case. All members were tested and quarantined for 14 days before departure and 35 days in sea most came out as COVID positive. My gut is telling me sea climate is favorable for this virus survival.

CDC did tested earlier cruises in March/April and isolated virus from railings 14 days after disembarkation of all humans.

I just have to stay centered on the here and now. The virus is just too communicable. I know that, I believe that, and I can't let my "want" for normalcy override my good sense.

This article snapped me right out of my fantasy and back to the reality of our current Covid-19 world.

I have been watching the start-up of that cruise line. Not a great start for the industry.
