Default DVC Points for DCL and RCCL Cruises

Just saw that David's is now allowing swapping of DVC points not just for DCL, but for RCCL as well. Seems like a big deal. What does everyone else think?

Just me, but if I were cruising RCCL, I'd rather pay for it myself. David's is a class operation, but the thought kinda creeps me out.

But if you have excess points and want to do RCCL, why not give it a try?

David's has been doing this for awhile.

DVC points for cruises is a bad idea. You are always better off renting the points and paying cash. (edited)

(not Davids service)
The reasons to pay cash vs using points are many, including....
Most expensive option
Least receptive to changes or cancellations
Receive no discounts
Receive no OBC

If I can not rent out my points by myself, then I will let David rent out my points give me the cash and use that cash for cruise, probably I will keep some extra in my pocket.

I actually am doing this now. I used David's service to book a RCCL cruise for April, 2020. I just this week rented the last of the points I needed to pay for the cruise.

While I do realize I am leaving money on the table by doing this, it is so much less hassle for me that it is worth it. I know I could have done this myself and put some $ in my pocket but I don't have the patience to stalk the RTT board and/or field all the unreasonable requests you get when trying to rent yourself.

It actually was very painless for me this way and I was not going to use the points for a trip anytime soon.

No need to apologize, Tom. But let me correct a few misstatements:

This is no more expensive than booking cash directly and comes with added benefits. We use the Cruise Line's agent portals to find the best pricing and programs. Plus, we secure the cruise immediately so you are assured an early pick of cabins and pricing. You do not have to wait for your points to be rented.

Any discounts that are applicable to the cruiser are available through our program, whether special group programs, timed events or loyalty programs.

I hope this clears up any misunderstandings in our programs.

Actually, I was not clear with my original response.

I was referencing using DVC points to book a cruise, not use your service to rent the points and book a cruise. I do agree that renting your points and using the money to pay for the cruise is the best option.

Sorry for the confusion of blurring the three options of using points for a cruise.

By the way.....Good to see you!
