Default Holding points

So I have a few thoughts/questions about Holding points...

Scenario #1, I cancel a reservation in the holding period. I get the points in the holding account, and they have to be used within 60 days. BUT, I have another reservation that is between 30 and 60 days from now. Can I apply the holding points to that reservation?

Scenario #2, I cancel a reservation in the holding period. I get the points in the holding account and they have to be used within 60 days. I find another reservation with the same number of points that is 59 days from now, so I book it. Then I get within the holding period of that one and cancel. Do they maintain the original holding expiration or do they get new life?

Just to be clear: they don't have to be used 60 days from when they go into holding. You just have to use them to make a reservation no more than 60 days out. Expiration/use year terms all apply

Holding points can only be used 60 days prior to a new desired check-in date. You have to the end of your use year to use them.

As for applying the holding points to a reservation you already have booked - the jury is out on this. I have holding points in my acct and asked this same question to multiple DVC CMs and was denied my request. But, other MOs have reported success with doing this.

Holding points remain holding points and if not used will expire at the end of your use year

Best scenario is to find a room within 60 days window and use holding points.

CM can reallocate points only if rooms are still available.

It seems like "in the old days" that applying holding points to an existing reservation that's 60 days or less from when you are trying to reallocate the holding points happened more easily. This year is the first year since 2006 that I've had holding points, so I'm only going on what other members have stated in threads here on MOs. I don't know if this is a system change which doesn't allow the reallocation of the holding points to an existing reservation, or CMs are just applying the "rule" more consistently (personally, I'm good with applying the rules consistently).

I think the "rule" on holding points has always been that you had to apply the holding points to a new reservation -- much like you weren't suppose to be able to reallocate points for a reservation that you made in the 11 month owner window (i.e. swap SSR points for VGF points on a reservation made in the owner window). I've found that when I reallocate points now that DVC CMs are very sensitive to making sure that you're following the rules when it comes to your reservations and how points are used. That's just been my general observation in the last year or two.

So here is an interesting tidbit I learned today...trial by fire.

I had an old reservation that was closer than 60 days out.

I had some holding points and used them to modify the reservation and add on one day.

Then a few days later, I cancelled the whole thing. Anyone care to guess what happened to the holding points? They went poof. Re-categorized as whole bankable points.

This is of course left me with the wondering with the following sort of scenario...

I have 10 holding points

I have a reservation for 12/20-25/2019 (it is within the 60 days).

I go to modify the reservation and select new days 12/20-25

It pulls up all the days available, because they are because I booked them. I select them and go to book.

It asks which contracts. And I choose my holding points.

Bye Bye holding points.

Interesting experience.

Points go into holding at 30 days out, not 60 days out. You need to book a reservation with them no more than 60 days out. But you seem to have gotten a work around.

What I'm saying is there is a bug.

I had some holding points. I used them to modify and add on a day to an existing reservation that was about 50 days out.

A few days later I cancelled the reservation in its entirety, so about 40 days out.

The holding points were then re-classified as regular points.
