Default Resort Opening Day Festivities?

Hi All

We're heading to Riviera for opening day (staying 4 nights). The kids (12, 10, 10) don't want to miss a day in the parks but are willing to do so if opening day at the resort will be filled with special festivities and opening day activities.

I'm assuming there will be some sort of ceremony, ribbon cutting, Mickey and Minnie, balloons, etc. but will there be more?

For those of you who have attended opening days at any of the previous resorts, what did you experience?

Thanks in advance!
Kyle

We were present for Aulani's Grand Opening (the official date, not the earlier Soft Opening). There was a huge show out on the beach with both HI and Disney officials, music, HI blessing ceremony and fireworks. This was followed by appetizers around the pool with lots of Disney execs, imagineers and similar, out and about. It was crazy good.

We received a special gift and invitation in our room.

On the other end of the spectrum, I was at VGF for the first night, and they did absolutely nothing special. I do believe there may have been a small lithograph available.

I believe it was very similar fo PVB. I think most resorts have some sort of special pin for sale. And maybe a photo op for some suits. Id guess Aulani was special because of its offsite location in Hawaii.

PVB had a special ceremony, but nothing huge.

I think that is correct. We were at poly for the opening night, but we got there later so I thought we might have missed it. I do recall getting a pin (not a small trading one, but a big birthday type pin). Also as Brian said a lithograph

Got my hopes up after reading that Aulani story!

What do you think about the fact that both VGF and PVB were both DVC "add-ons" to existing established resorts? Riviera is a brand new, stand-alone, DVC resort... anyone think that will make a difference?
