Default 11 Nights of Magic in Iceland/Scandinavia- a Retro Photo TR

Edit- So I didn’t complete this trip report and there were issues with some of the pictures so I took it down. I haven’t really thought about it but with Covid and with not much hope of travel in the immediate future, I’ve gone back to it with the hopes of maybe completing the report before the end of the pandemic. It may take some time to post all of the posts, but if anybody wants to waste an hour or so of your life- here’s your opportunity). The trip report starts on page 5.

Well, I may be overly ambitious but after 11 days of the Magic touring Iceland and Scandinavia, I felt the compelled to do a trip report. When you have photos of historic castles and landmarks:

The natural beauty of Iceland and Scandinavia:

Unique wildlife:

Prehistoric sites:

Bizarre and awesome foods (Spoiler alert- Whale was not even among the top three weirdest foods eaten):

The Inspiration for Walt Disney World- Tivoli Gardens:

and beautiful vistas:

I haven’t even gotten into our visit to archeological sites, visiting an iconic football stadium, our quest to go north of the artic circle to see puffins, visiting the blue lagoon and the crazy things we did (snowmobiling in July- sure- sliding the world’s longest slide- why not?) or even our time on the Magic.

We spent a lot of time researching excursions. Many of them are what you may expect but we always try to do a few off the beaten path excursions as well. I’m always happy to answer any questions and if you have any plans to visit these areas- well, I envy you.

This was our third Disney cruise- first on the Magic. Since we sailed the Wonder before, there won’t be as many ship specific references since the ships are so similar. That said, I will say we much prefer the smaller ships and I will say the crew we encountered on the Magic was easily the best we have had on any of our cruises. I will also say that the ship’s crew was visibly excited about going to Iceland since its not a regular stop for the ship.

If you have never read one of my trip reports before, be forewarned, brevity is not my strong suit. On the bright side, there will be plenty of pictures, plenty of song references and a trip report without movie references? Inconceivable! So without further ado, grab a wool sweater or kilt, a glass of Macallan or a shot of Brennivin, grab a Danish, cinnamon roll or some harkal (on second thought, don’t eat the latter) pop on some Beatles, Zep, Bjork, Abba, or whatever else floats your boat, this is going to take a while.

Our itinerary:

Day 1: Travel from NYC to London- Hilton Waldorf London:
Day 2: Pre-Cruise London Day 1- London Tower, Westminster Abbey, Churchill War Rooms, Gordon Ramsey's Savoy Grill:
Day 3: Pre-Cruise London Day 2-Stamford Bridge (Chelsea FC), V & A Museum, a Chippie, Bus Tour of London:
Day 4: Pre-Cruise London Day 3- Buckingham Palace, Royal Mews, Pub lunch, Astromital Orbit, Marsala Zone, West End:

Sweet! I have a Northern Europe cruise booked on the Magic for next summer, so very interested! I suspect it's the cruise right after yours.

Following. We've done Norway on the Magic but haven't been to Iceland yet. This looks like a great cruise.

We did Iceland a few years back and just were in Helsinki this past February rounding out our four-year set of trips to Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. The latter four were in Winter, so the scenery was quite different, of course

I looked at the title and then thought that the first picture looked like Tower Bridge, London. Didn't see that part of the trip until below the pictures
