Default Resale plus buying direct

Hi all,

Quick question. The last time I looked at resale years ago, there were not the restrictions I saw in the membership that I see today.

For getting the full benefits offered - like dining or any discounts like resident annual passes - if we bought through DVC direct for a smaller contract, but added points at the actual resort we want (Poly) resale, we'd still be able to get those discounts and access lounges etc, yes?

Thank you so much!

Yes, as long as you have the minimum # of direct points.

Poly is sold out, you may consider buying resale first then request add on to get the same use yr.

Is this the recommended order of operations? In a world where my husband says "sure, buy into DVC, and hey get that cute kitten while you're at it" I would want BLT points. Is it best to have them all the same use year? And if so, then is it best to get some resale points THEN get the 75 minimum direct points from Disney and request that they be put as the same use year as the resale points?

No resort is actually "sold out".

I wouldn't generally recommend paying the direct Poly price however when it's $235/pt vs $150 +/- for resale. That's $85/pt premium. Over $6,000 just on 75 points! That's a whole lot of AP's and $1.30 discounts on retail and dining.

I just saw that the sold over 2,000 PVB points direct during June. It's been between 1600-3600 for the past several months.

That makes it easiest - resale first then direct. And a single UY is definitely easier to work with.

We bought direct points to ensure we always had the blue membership card. We enjoy the special events and perks. We didn’t do a cost analysis, we bought the direct points for our enjoyment. The APs and merchandise and dining discounts save us quite a bit, also.

75 points is the latest number of direct points needed to get the blue card. They don’t have to be bought all at once. We bought 25 pts at OKW. Some resorts have different minimums.

We bought our resale first and then added the direct. Then added more resale.........etc.

We kept the same UY for all. There are pros and cons to this, but I think that Disney will quibble if you try to buy a different UY.

Dvc will like to keep you in same use yr so they will match the use yr.

Also if you want to buy little over min to get you desired length of stay you can buy that many points letís say 80 or 85 instead of 75

Technically you may be right but in actuality they are not selling so called sold out resort actively. Sure they will ROFR to sell a 2000 points contract on any resort.

We bought our direct points at OKW for two reasons. We like to stay there and the points were cheapest. I really canít imagine paying for the Poly at the direct prices.
