Default Interesting Read on Limited DVC Inventory

Tom Bricker at DisneyTouristBlog.com did an interesting piece on why it's getting harder to book DVC resorts at 7 months.

He attributes it to Aulani (2nd largest DVC resort in terms of points) and the PVB Bungalows. Both flood points into the system for staying at WDW since neither location is desirable for frequent stays.

https://www.disneytouristblog.com/li...-club-resorts/

He also has a nice write-up on why it's not a scam that you can't find rooms on points but can find cash rooms at the resorts. I know folks here get tripped up by that fairly frequently. Check it out.

Oh, I know. I was just being silly. I tried to catch up on trip reports one time; that didn't last long.

I missed the first post so appreciate this one, it is very interesting.

It reinforces our decision to buy where we wanted to stay. The home resort booking advantage of 8-11 months is getting more and more important.

We initially did the "buy where it's cheapest" strategy. We bought SSR and were very successful in getting rooms at other resorts at the 7-month mark. Fast forward 8 years later and we are now selling off SSR and buying BCV and BLT, which is where we want to stay. No one wants to go back to the great recession, but it sure was a great time to buy points and to book desirable locations on cheap points.

I have definitely thought that Aulani and the Poly (with only studios and the ridiculously high point per night bungalows) put lots and lots of people into he DVC pool but did not add(enough) rooms on site in Orlando at WDW. So, I have to wonder if they did this on purpose or just did not thinking it through. Surely they knew what they were doing...but why would the make it so hard to book ON PURPOSE at seven months? Perhaps they are trying to encourage people to buy the newer resorts direct from Disney (like GF and POLY) at the higher prices and discourage people buying resale at places like SSR and OKW and BW and AK were the point charts are more friendly and the price per point is lower so they can then book at the newer resorts like Poly and GF and BLT....who really knows? {I almost confused myself with this idea...lol}

Huh? It's a dead link! I'd try to find it by doing a search on your name, but that would only turn up 9,328 posts since Monday.

Very interesting, thanks for posting. Well this does scew the DVC “ model” as they try to sell future resorts. Expanding DVC in CA would bring some relief but that expansion would be small in numbers and probably not offset the 7 month demand. What about the VWL cabins? Won’t that contribute to the problem as well?
