Cool New Southwest Airlines Destination Coming

SWA announced yesterday that they will begin service to Hawaii in 2018. This has long been rumored, but is now becoming reality since SWA is expanding their fleet with new 737 Max aircraft. The new aircraft are more fuel efficient and have expanded range and capacity - 175 passengers.

Start date and schedules have not yet been released.

Hopefully they will be competitive. With SW's policies, that will be a good option for Hawaii visits (albeit few and far between)

Default hawaii flights

[I work for SWA] tix go on sale next year. It's going to take at least a year to get FAA approvals, and routes should begin mid 2019. I hope we add some in-flight entertainment! That's a long flight with only expensive spotty internet.

The other challenge for Southwest for this particular route is the flight length vs. seating configuration. Assuming they use the same seating configuration/policy, it will be cramped quarters for the long haul with no opportunity to upgrade for a seat with longer pitch. It will be interesting to see how they manage this as I expect this route to be one of the longest they they have in their inventory.

You shouldn't have mentioned that. You're going to get bombarded with PMs asking questions about release dates, drink coupons, etc....
