Default The great non-princess Princess British Isles cruise! (preplanning)

Well, we're about three months out from our next great adventure. In 2015 we did the inaugural 10 night Norwegian fjords cruise on DCL. It was the best. trip. ever. We planned to sail DCL in Europe again in 2017.

So, the waiting for Disney to release summer 2017 dates started. We knew we were definitely four (Angus and I, and Nancy and Becky of F&W and Norway). I'd talked to Robin (of T&R) who was also looking for a big trip in 2017 but was still up in the air. And, I'd messaged Brian back and forth. He'd wanted to join us in Norway, but his job wouldn't cooperate. Sooo, finally opening day. I'm gold as is Angus so I was online bright and early to check prices for our cruise options. The first choice for the group was a British Isles cruise. So, I waited for DCL's phone lines to open and dialed immediately and waited, and waited, and waited some more. Meanwhile, I was texting Robin, Nancy and Brian. And then the prices started getting posted.. HOLY COW. I messaged Nancy and said, it's a lot. I mean A LOT. We can do it, but we need to re-price the BI Princess cruise we looked at. Well, the Princess cruise came in at a 50% price reduction over DCL, for 12 nights. A flurry of texts ensued, and we picked a date- and added more than 50% of our original guests. Tom & Robin jumped in, as well as Brian, and some of our St. John friends too... So we went from 4 to 10 guests and we all booked. It will be the first Princess cruise for any of us. We're going to be so busy, we won't have too much time to worry about the ship. The cruise is only listed with one sea day, and we've got a packed itinerary including the Military Tattoo (we already have tickets) Wicklow, the Guinness brewery, and the Giant's Causeway. One of the (multiple) awesome things about this trip is because our group is so big, we're pretty much doing all private tours but the cost is split by 10. I can't believe how well we've done. I think that the cost of our room plus all excursions is still cheaper than the cheapest room on the Magic.

Looking forward to hearing about the preplanning and the cruise itself! So excited for you all! I know the booze cruise was fun, I'm sure this one will be too!

Default Flights...

Flights to London were our first task. I think prices were reasonable for this summer. We booked pretty early, and paid to upgrade to extra legroom. Since we live in Charleston, I booked our flight (non-stop) from a hub (BOS) figuring CHS-BOS would be easy.

Well, it would have been except Virgin Atlantic changed our flight times and now our flight home would arrive after the last flight departed from BOS-CHS. So we had a flurry of stress and now we fly to LHR from BOS but back via NYC.

I booked the first flight of the day from CHS-BOS so we've got a 12 hour delay but I'm booking a hotel to use as a place to hang out and store luggage. Our flight to London is overnight.

We have the Charleston 4 plus three St John peeps are flying out Monday night. T&R and Brian are flying in on another airline (British Airways though, I think).

We're taking private transfers to and from the airport so we're all set there.

I'm doing this exact cruise on June 30 (ours has an overnight in Dublin), can't wait. Staying the night before in Southampton then 4 nights in London after (including a day trip to Paris).

It made much more sense to take the train to Paris for the day than to do anything of the ship. It'll be a long day, but we get 12 hours there which is enough to hit a lot of really cool things (already have tickets for the Louvre and the Eiffel tower). In Britain we are doing the WB studios Harry Potter tour, plus all the typical London stuff.

Rather excited as EVERYTHING is paid for and ready to go. Burning more Marriott points than I like to think about for our London hotel (County Hall) but really looking forward to it.

.
We're also doing an overnight in Dublin. I'd really wanted to do Kirkwall but the dates didn't work.
