I pointed out that for what I can rent the points required for one fare I could cover the price of both adult fares. He quickly got real after that!

He was right about the points conversion being based on opening day prices and not going up, but we all know there are better ways to maximize your points.

That said, I did do some comparisons, and there are some times I might not mind using points to offset at least half the cruise fare if I knew I wasn't going to use the points even if I banked them and didn't want to deal with renting.

However, renting is always the best way to maximize point value of unused points.

Didn't I recently see a headline saying the points for a cruise price would go down by 30%? Not sure if that was temporary or not, but was curious if that gets closer to the points exchange working for cruises.

I think that was for specific cruises they were trying to fill. We almost could have taken advantage of it if we bagged our May WDW trip, but it's time for a land-based Disney experience.

TBH, at 30% off, I probably would use points for a cruise if I didn't need them for a WDW stay.

It was.....but those cash prices were also reflective of the reduced rate.

Rent the points, pay cash is ALWAYS the best advice. Its not just about the cost, but its about the flexibility in case you need to cancel or change. Those DVC point transactions are final, no take backs and do overs.

You'll have fun. Keep an eye out for the drink package to go on sale. We saw it as low as $44. You can buy it now and then if it goes cheaper, just cancel and re-buy it. The dining package, too, may go on sale. We got the 3 night for $60 and it was sooooo worth it.

How do I look out for that stuff, on the website, or will they email me? Another question, my wife does not drink at all, just water and coffee. I drink water, wine, beer, and an occasional mixed drink. Can one person get a drink package?

I think all over 21s in the cabin have to get the drink package. The sales will be on the website on your cruise planner.
