Parking in Charleston, SC

We are taking a long weekend trip to Charleston. Where should we park in the historic district and how much does parking for the day cost?

There are several parking garages in the area. I don't recall the cost, but I don't recall it being shockingly high.

We parked in a garage (city owned?) that had a visitor's center attached to it. You could go inside and purchase tickets to attractions. We did the harbor boat tour and a carriage ride, enjoyed both. There was a retired high school history teacher that narrated the boat tour, he was excellent and knowledgable on the City and the "War of Northern Aggression".... hint General Lee might have surrendered but South Carolinians did not! The garage was reasonably priced and very close to the historic district. We loved the afternoon we spent in Charleston and definitely want to go back to spend some more time.

We’re visiting Charleston at the end of Presidents Day Week (the beginning is spent at Disney’s Hilton Head). We’re staying at the Embassy Suites in the historic district. I think they’re charging us around $30 a day to park there. That’s probably more (?) than parking garages would charge, although I’m certainly not sure about that. I would guess in the $20 range for day travelers.

Definitely visit The Citadel (free parking on campus), and if you are lucky enough to be there on a Friday afternoon, attend their parade. My son is a cadet there and it is a unique place!

Thanks for this tip. I will have three teenage girls along for the ride and I bet they would LOVE to visit the Citadel....and Id love to see the parade. Unfortunately, we wont be there on a Friday. Best wishes to your son.....Citadel is a great experience!
