Default Alternate routes from RI?

We are driving down from RI and I am looking for alternate routes to avoid 95 south through CT, NY any suggestions? We always drive the 95 south route but have to time it not to hit traffic. I am trying to find another route

Based on where you are, can you take 84 to eastern new york, then come down 287 to the GW bridge, as suggested in the post above? You might have to go north to 90 west to get to 84 west.

I completely get avoiding southwestern CT - we take 84 and 287 when we drive

It will surely take longer but be less stressful -

Mass Turnpike to NY State Thruway to Garden State Parkway to NJ Turnpike?

You'll still have to go through Baltimore and DC. We manage to hit them around 10 am from NJ so rarely have a problem.

You could go even further West down through Pennsylvania and Western MD, but I'm not sure that's really worth it the extra time.

My experience of Connecticut was that it was always a parking lot until at least Stamford/Bridgeport and often to New Haven. Tappan Zee worked sometimes, but not others. It really is the roll of the dice.

Have you thought about taking 95 to Warwick, then hoping on a plane

If you can stop by your local AAA...

The last time we drove from New York they provided us with an alternative “scenic” route. It was outstanding and absolutely beautiful.

Highlights
Cape May Ferry
Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel

We avoided 95 most of the way down- much more relaxing trip.

Entering Pennsylvania

At exit 40, take ramp right for PA-737 toward Kutztown

Turn right onto PA-737 / Krumsville Rd

Turn left onto Snyder Rd

Keep straight onto Nursery Rd

Turn right onto Stony Run Valley Rd

Bear right onto PA-737 / Krumsville Rd

Keep straight onto PA-737 / Krumsville Rd

Take ramp right for US-22 West toward Harrisburg

At exit 1B, take ramp left for I-81 South toward Harrisburg
