I wonder if the problem in the eyes of the untrained bus driver was the folded wheelchair. Perhaps she thought she had no where to put it in a crowded bus.

I saw a boat driver once tell a parent there was no room for the huge double stroller . They already had two strollers and two scooters . The family had to wait for the next boat.
I do understand them not having room. We have encountered this several times with buses, and don't even bother trying to get on one of the boats that goes between EP and HS. Waited over an hour until a boat showed up that had room, never doing that again.

I'm not sure, but that was the general impression that we got from the CM's at the bus stops.
At any rate, this would be unacceptable no matter what! Hopefully, Tink711 is right and it was done out of insecurity and fear, rather than deliberate discrimination.
Interesting, I haven't ever seen this.

First of all I am very sorry that this happened. At very least it should have been handled better.
Next you should have pulled out your phone and videoed them denying you access to a bus. Im sure Disney wouldn't be very happy to have that video out there and may do something quickly to stop that behavior from happening again.
Finally thank you for complaining. My autistic daughter uses a wheelchair too. I would also of have like this to happen to us or any other family.

I never think to take a video! I'm so old-fashioned. My ds12 was with me and he probably had his phone in is hand the whole time. We totally should have videoed the situation- you're right. Well, the CM who witnessed the whole thing was shocked and the manager I spoke with was pretty horrified too- I felt 100% sure that they would both follow up. I felt like they were on my daughter's side so it's probably ok.

We had this happen to us at AK, only with a regular Disney bus. We had a scooter with my Mom in the designated area. The bus driver pulled up, making eye contact with us and proceeded to open the door and let people in. I walked over to the front and told him he forgot to load Mom. He said he can't because people were already on the bus. The ones who were on said they were fine with her loading and even offered to unload. Nope! He refused even though the passengers were insisting too. Seeing there is that little building area at AK, I walked over and asked for whoever was in charge. Told him what happened and gave him bus number. Got more of a "numb" reaction from him so I'm assuming he knew exactly who it was. He had us move to an undesignated area and within a minute another bus driver walked out of the building, getting into one of those empty busses that are parked there, and we were escorted to our resort in our own bus with many apologies from him.
Sorry for your bad experience. I get the "Momma Bear" reaction as this guy made my Mom feel embarrassed and horrible, so I went into action too.

Oh my goodness!! I am so sorry this happened to you!

This is illegal and completely unacceptable for a contract company with Disney! I hope that the manager followed up to make sure this never happens again...

Wow

We had a bus driver who was rude and almost didn't let my aunt board once but that was him claiming she had to do it or she wasn't allowed on any bus. I was going to do it for her just out of speed of it all. She gets nervous about parking and often goes slower. Of course we had another who tried to get her to go backwards down the ramp and she nearly went over the edge if we hadn't been helping.

Nothing near as bad as yours or the OP. So sad that it happens

For those drivers who do stuff like this intentionally and out of discrimination, all I can say is you reap what you sow.
One day, through age, illness or injury they are going to be the ones needing a little extra help and understanding. People like this never realize that when they have these attitudes they surround themselves with people of similar mindset, and they train their children to have similar mindset. So when that day comes for them, who are they going to turn to ?

On my mom's first ECV trip we had a bus pull up one morning and the driver found that the lift wouldn't operate. The bus was empty (we were the first stop) and the driver wouldn't even let the walkers get on. He changed the sign to something along the lines of "out of service" and drove off back to the garage. I don't remember exactly what he said but something along the lines of if the bus could not take wheeled guests, it had to be removed from service immediately. We told him we were fine, please take the other guests, but he said that was not allowed. We just assumed it was a policy to avoid even the appearance of discrimination.
If Disney policy goes so far as to leave walkers standing at a bus stop because a non-functioning lift prevents a wheeled guest from boarding, I would think it would be immediate termination for refusing to board a guest on wheels.
We had a similar experience with the Magical Express...Both I and my father had walkers and the driver initially refused to allow us on. Stating that we had not requested a bus with a lift. We didn't need a lift but we had to wait for the next bus anyway.- that was my first and last trip on the magical express. Never again. That trip was an eye-opener for me.
