All of the gondolas were uncovered this week on the line by HS. They were also doing a lot of testing this past week while we are here.

The Latest in Gondola Drama!

‘This is about safety': Disney firefighters voice concerns over staffing amid park expansions

I did add some commentary. . .

Quote:
BAY LAKE, Fla. - Walt Disney World is a busy place, and it’s getting even busier with “Star Wars” opening soon, several new resorts and a new gondola system.

The new transportation system, which carries passengers through the sky, is a special concern for first responders.

Firefighters working at Disney said they were already stretched to the max even before all the new growth started.

They say more people should mean more firefighters at a place where money is no object..

"And not leaving the people up there for hours upon hours to get people off the rides. It could be up to 200 cars, I'm being told," said Tim Stromsnes, with Reedy Creek Professional Firefighters.

So, we can now add starving to death while waiting for an understaffed fire department to rescue you to the list of reasons gondolas are Disney's Death Trips in the Sky!
  • EZ Bake Ovens in the Sky
  • lightning strikes
  • alligator infested waters
  • rope collapses
  • some bozo opening the door with a special tool
  • heart attack due to fear of heights

Have I missed anything?

I'm still a huge gondola fan and suspect the emergency services are making the best of an opportunity to argue for more staffing. They have been careful to criticize Reedy Creek and not Disney (how the two are different, I don't know).

Large predator birds?
They may not be able to get into the cages, but they might get a finger or two. And we'll be sitting ducks (figuratively speaking) on the loading platforms.

The loading platforms are covered, though. That’s some protection at least.

But Dirk missed sink holes from his list. WDW is built on swamp land. The weight of the whole system could cause a giant sink hole to open up and swallow everything in it’s path.

(This is meant to be a joke, for anyone of a nervous disposition.)

I did forget sinkholes, but I'm really captivated by the idea of predator birds. I'm envisioning either a Jurassic Park scenario, or the escape of Condors from from Animal Kingdom.
