We watched it last night from the very dark backcountry of San Diego. Went out to the horse paddock just as soon as the 2nd playoff game ended (rats! didn't get either of my picks into the Super Bowl!!!) and tossed a bareback pad on my mare. Watched the first half of the eclipse while riding the horse in the lovely moonlight ... then simply sat in the paddock for the rest with horses sniffing us, asking for contact and breathing on us. Super fun!

Edited to add: Ha, ha, ha! I just noticed which forum this thread resides. Our viewing approach was about as far from technology as possible!

I stoped onto our -13 windchill balcony for 2 minutes to look at it. Neat. Then went to bed. I had toyed with setting up to take pictures, but it was just too damn cold. We didn't get any snow, but the ground was wet and frozen and would not have been fun.

If we had a good East facing view, I would have enjoyed getting the moonrise where it looked really large (though not yet at eclipse). For the eclipse phase, it was fairly high in the sky. Orange but not overly large and no really good way to frame the pic for photography in my complex anyway.

Yes, it was 14 here at my house in Southwest Virginia, near TN, with gusty winds.

It was too cold to stay out long but I went out and watched it for a bit to see the color. It was beautiful but hard to appreciate in the biting wind.

Being directly overhead it was too small to get a good picture. When I tried it came out too fuzzy. At 6 AM, though, it was like a spotlight shining in my west facing bedroom!

Perhaps both of you would have enjoyed a warm horse-breath steaming your neck and shoulders ... or simply leaning against them as a wind break.
