DCL or Aulani? I just priced a 7 night cruise for May 2018.....$6000+ for a balcony stateroom for three people.

I'm really leaning towards Aulani. I'm thinking I can find an owner to do a transfer so I can have the 11 month window. I know DCL includes everything, and airfare to Hawaii will be pricey, but I just feel like I'll get more bang for the buck with Aulani.

Thoughts?
How many points is your Aulani vacation, and what's your total cost (points * your cost, plus flights, etc.)? The reason I ask is that if you rent your DVC points out at $13 on Davids (or similar), $6000/13 is only 462 points, and if your cost per point is $8 or $9 (or lets say $10 to make the math easier), that cruise would cost you $4620 in normal point cost. (It actually costs you $6000, because you are forgoing the profit on the David's sale, but it easily compares to a 462 point vacation.) So you rent out the 463 points, get $6000, and use it to book the cruise.

AFAIK, these are for guests only. I would think if it were only 1 or 2 people you could get away with it, but if it is a big group probably not.

I'm just too lazy to look this up. I've never stayed at the Contemporary or at BLT, and have never made it to TOTWL. How do I get to TOTWL from the monorail stop?

The quickest way is to walk out of the Contemporary past the bus stop and around to the front entrance of BLT. There is a desk there where you show your membership card, and the escort you to the elevator that goes to the top floor.

A couple options...

First you could walk across the bridge from the 4th floor of the Contemporary to the 5th floor of Bay Lake Tower, take the elevator down to the lobby and check in at the desk. Then they'll take you to the "special" elevator to be let up to the 16th floor and Top of the World Lounge.

Alternatively, you can take the escalators or stairs or elevator down to the lobby of the Contemporary, walk over to the lobby of Bay Lake Tower, and check in at the desk. Then they'll take you to the "special" elevator to be let up to the 16th floor and Top of the World Lounge.

Thanks! Knew this would be quicker than looking it up!
I'm trying not to park hop this time. I didn't promise myself anything about TOTWL!

Option two sounds much simpler to me. I'm just not that familiar with this resort. Too fond of VWL and VGF!

We love it up there. We like to go up right before the fireworks and have a snack or dessert and drinks. The kids like it because it is usually pretty empty when we are there in September. Our July 4th trip was different though. It was packed up there.

I haven't been there yet, but I've also read that you can just take the elevator to 15, and then the stairs up to 16. Any truth to that?

Since May will just be a two day trip, I'm thinking the first night I'll head over and watch the fireworks from there. If I don't "accidentally" get off the monorail at the Poly and watch them from the beach instead...
