Default Delivery Charges.....is this new?

My Niece is currently staying at Pop Century. When they got back to the room late last night, what I'm assuming was her check in packet seeing she said it was a folder with papers, was sitting in their room with a note that they owe Disney $5 for a delivery charge. What???? I have never heard of that. I told her to go to Guest Services and tell them you didn't request a delivery and therefore, shouldn't have to pay that (I mean, they could have left her a message telling her to pick it up). I know its only $5, but the principal of the thing. To me, Disney is five and diming again. Wondering anyone else's thoughts, and has this been a practice for a while?

I have no idea what that is about, but like you, I would question it! Agreed that it is only 5 dollars, but it's pretty bad customer service. JMHO...

Huh... very interesting. I am pretty sure that Disney did institute a $5 delivery charge recently but it was for package delivery such as from a food delivery service. Although, we were at OKW last month and they did not charge us for our package from Garden Grocer.
I'm sure that others here will have more info for you.

I'll be interested to hear what the front desk says the $5 charge was for...

It first started at convention resorts since many people were getting tradeshow supplies delivered. Amazon came along and more and more people starting shipping more and more items to the hotels. Most hotels (outside of Disney) regularly charge for package handling. Can you imagine how much stuff is being delivered, managed, handled and stored? I don't think it is unreasonable but they have not been consistently charging for it which I think causes frustration.

Wait, she was charged $5 because they delivered the Welcome Packet to her room?? If I have something shipped to me I have no problem with the fee but not if Disney is sending paperwork one would normally get at check-in.

I think that's what OP was saying. That's crazy. It'd tell them to keep their Welcome Packet. Don't need it.

That's what it sounded like to me. Maybe I misunderstood. But I wouldn't pay 5 bucks for that!

Yes, it was her check in paperwork and here's her response to me when I asked what they said:

"I called guest services and she said that it's that way across the board and it's nothing new."
