Default Best Way To Drive To Hilton Head Island

We are driving from southern Pa. to HHI in July, departing on a Sunday and leaving on a Saturday. We HATE Tysonís Corner, mixing bowl on 495 and want to circumvent it totally. Best route?

1. Go 15 to I70 To I81,

2. Go to 695 ( Balt. beltway) to 97, to 50 to 495 , 95.

I think both of these routes miss Tysonís corner.

Anyone have experience with these routes? Suggestions?

You still get the mixing bowl with #2. You may want to consider I-97 to 50 to 301 south. Lots of traffic lights on 301 south, but frequently faster than 95 between DC and Richmond, especially if traveling at rush hour or on weekends.

We've done 301 a few times. I like it because although the speed limits (which vary) are lower than 95, we didn't hit any traffic jams. 95 from Baltimore to Quantico sucks.
