To those who have been - how necessary do you think it is to have a car? Iíll be coming with my two kids (11 & 7) and meeting my friend with her two kids (5 & 7).

Thanks!
Weíve only been once (and absolutely loved it), but I would say that you definitely need a car. Although you can take the Disney transportation to the beach house and rent bikes to go other places, a car is really necessary to see HHI, especially with young kids. Others can chime in, but I would really want a car.

OMG, we've been about 15 times so we've developed lots of favorites-
Poseiden
Black Marlin
British Open Pub
Skull Creek Boathouse
date night-Old Oyster Factory and (Haven't been but someone recommended) Old Fort Pub
super-casual-Kenny B's, Sea Shack, Signe's Bakery

these come to mind first

The main thing we love is that Hilton Head defines the word VACATION to us. As someone previously said, relaxation, golf, birding (for us)

I feel like I am losing money ifI use points at vero beach or hilton head. I know I Know, I shouldnt worry about it but since the DVC $/point is so much cheaper for these two it feels like I'm wasting money

Take a look at the maintenance fees for HHI. We feel like we are making out like bandits when we stay there.

Also, the point costs are very low for the times we want to stay there.

If you donít want to use points, there are always cash reservations with a DVC discount.

HHI is very laid back and relaxed. Maybe not what you look for in a vacation?

Love HHI, it is the best kept secret, and cast members there are fantastic! They always try to go above and beyond with everything. It is a quiet, stress free resort, with golf and tennis near by. The beach house is very nice too. It is in a cove, not on the beach side, but water front. You can see dolphins in the water, and turtles on the beach. The resort is great for all age ranges, they have campfire and a sing along at night. There are also many outdoor games, a large front yard, checker board, Bocci, and other games outside. Location is great - in Shelter cove, there is shopping within walking distance, and golf and tennis across the way (across the street) in Palmetto Dunes- same proximity as the beach. Definitely need a car there

We always went in February, I used a mixture of points and cash - using DVC discount.

We own at VB with 2 to 3 day trips tacked on a WDW trip.
HHI is on our bucket list as a couples trip someday.
Is there a time not to go due to closed businesses?
Hurricane season maybe?
