Not clear what the confusion is about a credit card authorization hold. Can you elaborate? These have been around for many years.

Very familiar with authorizations/holds & actually surprised it’s taken Disney this long to put a policy like this in place.

The confusion.. at least for me, is exactly how this will play out with how many holds they’re putting on cards. The official wording sounds like they will put an initial $100 hold on your card but then keep adding $100 holds each time you exceed the initial $100.. in addition to the amount you spend. We can spend $100 in about a minute at Disney. That will add up quickly!
We have a split stay between 3 resorts in May & I use a debit card. I know everyone has their opinion about using debit cards, but that’s our choice. My bank can take up to a week to release a hold. Therefore, I’m trying to figure out exactly how much of our money they’re going to tie up in holds during my trip. Or we may decide to just use gift cards & not charge back to the room.
Just trying to plan ahead so, I was curious of first hand experiences.


Apologies for the duplicate post, I searched ‘authorization’ & ‘hold’ with no luck.. guess ‘credit card’ would’ve been the better choice...

Ah, got it. My interpretation (and it is only an interpretation) is that they will put a $100 hold. If/When you exceed that, they will push that to a real charge and out another $100 Hold. If that is the case, then one is really only out $100 above what is spent on the Hold. Even being Disney I can't imagine them adding to the hold while also charging the card.

I actually thought this thread was different from the linked thread. Thie first thread is about the change (before it happened) and this thread is asking for experience after the change? Is it expected to return to the earlier thread?

Interesting. I just always assumed Disney was putting a hold on my credit card. Didn't realize this was a new thing. The things one learns on MO's.

We charge to the room for convenience, and I donít mind the holds. I do want to be able to pay down the balance with gift cards since I canít put a credit balance on the account so I donít want them charging before i have chance to do that.

Under the old system, we just watched our charged and paid down with gift cards when we around 70% of the room limit. Not sure how the new system will work in that regard.

The Magic also did something new this trip - they charged our card several times during the cruise, even though charges were load. I went to pay down the account with gift cards only to discover a significant portion of the bill had already been charged.
