Or is it the guy who closed Pleasure Island and ended New Years Eve every night for all eternity? That's the guy

oh, and turned it into a shopping mall

I know that it's not the popular opinion but I didn't care for Pleasure Island. My husband like the Comedy Club I thought it was lame. The rest of the clubs I thought were kind of skeavy, with the exception of the Adventurers Club, which was a one and done. The carnival aspect moved to the Boardwalk but I still think all those games are skewered - DH said the basketball hoops are oval and he showed me from the side. Until we joined DVC we never bothered much with DTD. At least they have stores at DS that are no longer predominately Disney stuff that can be found either in the parks or cheaper at the outlets.

Only the parks in Tokyo were truly masterpieces, and the episode made sure to remind you repeatedly that Eisner had pretty much nothing to do with them. There definitely were some gems, most notably the Indy Adventure in DL, Soarin', ToT, and Test Track. But it you were to go back and look at the list of attractions at all 6 parks in 2005, particularly those built between 1984-2005, you'd be pretty disappointed, especially with those at DMGMS, DCA, and DAK.

That's true. Neither one of those parks were that great when they first opened. Even now, decades later, they still don't have as many rides as Magic Kingdom. But I'm glad they decided to expand and build more parks. So they have a place to keep adding more new rides.
I have always thought Iger was great. I used to think Eisner was not. But after learning more, I realize he was.

Never went and no appeal as we're not night people. So I can forgive that one. I like DS as it is now.

Cheers.

I guess if you don't like FW, I can see how you'd feel that way.

Cheers.

The more I read Bob Iger's book, the more I want him to stay. Such a fantastic person!

Part of being a truly great leader is planning for your succession. Impossible if your underlings keep taking the fall for you.

As a shareholder over the past 10 years I keep a relatively close eye on Disney as a company. Iger is beholden to two groups. Shareholders and the Board. I think all the evidence you need regarding his performance is shown in the fact that he has been asked by both groups to extend his leadership multiple times. His original contract was supposed to end in 2018 was extended to 2019 which was extended again to 2021.

Also, I read on here people comparing Igers purchases to Eisners and saying Iger has far out purchased Eisner. That is completely wrong. Iger purchased Pixar, Marvel and Lucas films for a combined $15.4B. Eisner purchased ABC/Capital for $19B. Those numbers donít include inflation.

I do have concerns with the direction of the company including risk associated with operating parks in China and its territories, ESPN and the direction of WDW. Disney as a company has done a good job of staying out of the political climate. Evidence by Iger openly changing his political affiliation in 2016 from Democrat to independent. China and ESPN are risks the company has to get pulled into ugly political discourse. I believe Disney as a company should avoid all politically charged issues, especially given how divisive everything is. The last thing Disney can afford is alienating large portions of the Country because of political opinions.

I think this forum is mainly focused on WDW (and for me the most important as a consumer). My issue there is the direction is confusing. They are continually adding rooms (see DRR and Reflections), however, they are increasing prices to the parks. To me, the only reason you would want to continually outpace inflation with admission is to lower crowds. Lower crowds seems like you wouldnít need more rooms. They clearly arenít planning to add a 5th gate and they are close to a breaking point with satisfaction, crowds and price. As a consumer and a shareholder I would feel much more comfortable if they stopped adding rooms and just substantially increase admission prices 20+% yearly to reduce crowds. This would probably increase profits and satisfaction for those who could afford it. The only downside would be the PR kickback in making a Disney trip essentially a 1% type trip.

The people making those decisions are much smarter than me so I trust their decisions but I think the risks Disney as a company face are much greater than DVC member satisfaction (unfortunately as a new DVC owner).
