Currently there are no plans to even contemplate expanding the gondola. So you can rule it out for at least a decade.

They won’t run them over inaccessible areas, like lakes, or wild animal areas, nor along major roads. For multiple reasons of maintenance, safety etc.

Long term there are plans for some form of transport from AKL, and also from DS to some areas. Wedway type system seems a possibility at AKL, they can’t do anything that would disturb the animals and they seem (stupidly) reluctant to just put in a walkway. Light rail maybe.
Whatever they need to do to make the gondola system work, they’re going to do. Why? Because the gondolas cost much less to put in the place and the cost is also much less to operate.

A gondola skyway system such as what they have typically runs $3 million to $10 million per mile to install.

A light rail or Train system typically costs $20-$30 million per mile. And there are some special problems with the water and swamps at Disney World that would probably increase the cost of installation significantly.

A monorail system costs between $100 million and $300 million per mile to install and maintenance is a bugger.

Of those three systems the gondola is much more cost-effective. In addition, it also requires many fewer people to operate and is much less costly to maintain. It is much less labor intensive and requires fewer people to run it. It has fewer moving parts and is less likely to break down.

The bus system is close to capacity And Disney has to pay thousands of drivers to drive the buses and more people to maintain them. As well as the initial purchase cost for buses. And then Disney is looking at long-term retirement benefits and other expenses for bus workers. Disney really wants to get out from under the bus system as much as possible.

One way or another, the gondola system is the most economical and cost-effective and will almost certainly be the Disney wave of the future. I would lay down money now to bet that within 20 years, Disney will have all of the resorts and all of the parks connected by a gondola system.

True! But there isn’t too much of an issue on other paths, like OKW to SSR and BW to DHS. Or indeed on the existing path from WL to FW.

We have seen alligators at BCV (while wranglers collected one) and OKW retention ponds and have been warned at check-in to avoid paths near water at CBR after dark.
With the advent of automated check-in the message is not as prevalent.

Wow never thought of alligators on the path. What about BWV walkway to Hollywood studios? We walked thatmany many years ago on NYE before it was all the way finished. After we did I said OMG alligators could have been in that water. Never thought about them in Disney.

I would really like to walk from MK to the GF do you think they would ever put a bridge over the canal where the light parade comes out? Why did the put a walkway all the way to the canal from MK?

I think the retention wall is too vertical for them to climb up but I'm just guessing.

I guess itís a combination of cost and safety. They would need a drawbridge, that could be raised to allow boats etc to get through. But that would mean having it manned, all for a relatively small number of guests who would actually use it. They could combine the bridge safety CMs with the bag search though ....., save on cost a bit that way.

Iím sure someone here said (relatively) recently they were even stopped from using that path from MK early in the morning by security.
