I can't get onboard with buying the plan. THere are too many other offsite places in Orlando that I love to eat at and dont want to "waste" money by not using the plan entirely. Just not good for us.

We usually get a 1 bedroom and eat at the Hotel rather than eat at the parks. Itís related more to the quality of the food in the park rather than cost. We have found the food at quick serve locations to not be that heathy or good. We do enjoy the nicer restaurants that require two meals. Would the dining plan make sense for this scenario.

This.

Has never worked the way we visit but recognize there are a few exceptions.

Visiting with any number of average to light eaters, it never even comes close to out of pocket with AP/DVC/TIW discount.

Edit: In 2017 our family of 5 spent 2 weeks at Disney. Table-Service once per day along with snacks and quick service. Bought TIW.

DDP price: ~$3500. (keep in mind, this cost does not include tips or appetizers).
Actual price with TIW: ~$2500. (we almost always had at least 1 table appetizer, but not always).

No character meals. No signature meals. No alcohol.

Not worth it anymore. Pay as you go and you will be money ahead plus you will not be tied to plans that don't work once on site.

I would love to enjoy the dining plan if someone else was paying.

We did the QS plan in January. 12 miles per day was the minimum we walked. Some days it was several more miles. I gained 4 pounds! It was a big bunch of really bad for you food. Plus I was thinking oh Iíll get the Vente frap as a killer deal snack credit. Ha! my daughter tells me after Iíd already had quite a few due to the incredible bargain, that one of them is more calories than one should eat in a day. It was fun for a couple days but I started feeling almost ill after a few days. We had tons of credits left behind. We tried to get fun stuff to take home but they have really paired down the choices. It was like fishy crackers and similar. No more pretty little shortbread boxes. Have never gained weight on regular dining plan but the qs is a killer, or at least it was for me. My adult daughters didnít gain a pound but they were typically ordering the healthier less expensive stuff. I was going for the items that saved $. I gave them my alcoholic beverages. I mainly got the plan because I couldnít justify purchasing them a $16 theme park glass of wine. I guess I saved in that sense?
