Great info! I feel like I understand use year pretty well...but I still have to stop and think about it sometimes.

Question

We have one use year at two different resorts, SSR and AKV. Our use year is December.

When we bought the second contract, I picked the same use year to minimize confusion. If I had it to do over again, I would buy two different use years and get two different accounts. The different accounts would keep the contracts separate. After a lot of experience, I find that having the contracts lumped together creates problems for me in keeping them separate for use.

I find that having the two contracts in one account creates confusion for me. The info on the website doesn't always separate out the different resorts. It may show banked points that have to be used but doesn't tell me which resort they are from. It tells me how many total points I have available, but doesn't break them out by resort. I call member services a lot to straighten the two contracts out.

AKV has higher maintenance fees and I like to use those points differently. I think this is why I want to keep the contracts separate.

If both your contracts are at the same resort, then the same use year will simplify things greatly. If your contracts are at different resorts, you may or may not want the same use year.

You can go to My Membership, Vacation Points, then choose which ever contract you want and choose the date range, it will show exactly how, where you used pts from that perticular contract and how many pts leftover.

We have two contracts at the same resort, with different use years, and find it no challenge at all to manage.

This.

They summarize it all to make it easier on the main screens, but you can dig in and see the details if you want.

Luckily we are in the state of having to borrow from our 2 contracts so it's usually not a problem.

I'm in the process of stalking our first contract, and I am having trouble with December UY's too! Glad I'm not the only one who has trouble with the concept of points coming in the last month of the year!
I'm leaning toward June or September... Any advice?

Well, I love our February UY. 2015 I get my points in February and have all year to use them. It makes total sense in my brain.

I don't think June or September would be nearly as confusing as December. And honestly, since we use the heck out of our points, it seems I'm always in the borrowing mode and not the banking, so it all works out.

I'm afraid that is where I will be! DH and I are going alone in November for our anniversary. I can't even make dining ressies for that trip and we are already planning another family trip with our adult children for next year. I will probably invite my baby sis, brother in law, and niece on that trip as well. Courtney is 8 and has NEVER been to Disney!!! Child abuse!!!

Default Noob question

I'm a bit confused as expected, I got my poly points and DVC account today - new member, UY sept. With 2014 points that's I can bank apr 31st latest

Do my 2014 points expire August 31st I'll use some for 1-2 nights before that as planned
if I bank by deadline and book for October will that use my Banked 2014 points? As sept i get my fresh 2015

If I reserve for October I understand that will be on my new 2015 year so technically if I don't bank but do make a reservation now still will use 2015 points not 2014?

Fyi process was fast I bought over the phone yesterday , today got my pin, no paper on mail yet but already setup my DVC account and can access it as expected can't see poly yet but only took one day to be in the system

You have a September UY. That means your points will expire by August 31st if you don't use them or bank them. If you bank points they will become available on September 1st for use.

USE year and booking windows are not the same and have nothing to do with each other. Booking windows are based on your home resort and are 11 months at your home resort and 7 months at all other resorts. So if you want to stay at resort in October, you could make a reservation at your home resort 11 months prior to October 2015 (you are now 8 months from October) and 7 months at other resorts.

When you make a reservation, you just have to have points available for use at the time of their use. So if you make a reservation for October 2015 you need to have points that will be available for use as of the date of your reservation (October X, 2015). If you banked 2014 points, you'll have 2014 points plus 2015 points that you could use.
