Default Iíve been reading about the gondola

Because of our interest in Riviera, I have been reading about the new gondolas.

In my head, they were like the gondolas that used to be at the Magic Kingdom.

That is not the case. These are much bigger and are really mass transportation. Apparently they have folding seats and standing room for 16 in each cabin. And yes, they are supposed to be air conditioned.

There is also a rumor that they will be extended to the Animal Kingdom Lodge in the next phase.

WOW!!

The rumours about AKL is iffy. There are plans for connecting AKL to AK and possibly elsewhere, but there are other more likely options.

The gondolas are not 16 person Cabins, they are Dopplemayer (mark 4 or 5) Cabins which will fit 10 although capacity planning assumes 8 people in each.

Disney are using an innovative design whereby the terminal stations (so all but Riviera) have a double bull-wheel, which allows cabins to be diverted to a second loading area behind the main one. This will let them be stopped completely if needed for ECV loading without affecting the main line. Although the cabins will be flush with the loading platforms, so strollers, wheelchairs and WCVs can be loaded easily without stopping in most cases.

Best place for the detailed info is WDWMagic or google ďLiftblogĒ who is a lift engineer who writes a blog on gondolas, and also contributed a lot of technical details to the WDWMagic forum.

I dont know where you have been reading but it must be of gondola's not being used at Disney World. They come out a couple months ago and said there will be no air conditioning. I wouldn't put to much in to rumors about Disney. They don't follow thru on stuff they announce as happening.

Here is the best information I have heard about the Skyliner. I would recommend giving it a listen... as it clears up a many of the rumors that are out there.

No air conditioning, but shouldn't be an issue since there is proper air circulation.

A DSNY newscast shows operations of other similar gondolas and talks about the future expansion to AKL. It is from 4 months ago. I wasn’t sure if I was allowed to post a link.
