Default Universal Announces new Gate

Not exactly a trip report, but definitely Non-DVC related.

Universal just announced a new park: https://www.usatoday.com/story/trave...rk/1887875001/
This will be the fourth theme park at the resort. Universal’s Epic Universe will strive to “create an entirely new level of experience that forever changes theme park entertainment.”

Although specific details such as themes, rides or attractions remain under wraps, guests will be taken “on a journey where beloved stories expand into vibrant lands — and where that journey is as much a part of their adventure as the ultimate destination,” according to a press release announcing the new park.
Pretty short on details, not even any kind of timeline - but still pretty exciting. They are definitely working to up their game!

Disney execs:..."isn't that going to be expensive? More than two rides? Why don't they just raise prices?"

This IS exciting news! Thanks for sharing! We just returned from a 10 day trip with a party of 10 a few weeks ago (we had a Studio & 2 bdrm at SSR & then moved to to LRP over tat Universal for 3 days). This was our first every visit to Universal, and it was okay (HP was PHENOMENAL). The kids LOVED the two big coasters, but we really missed the story telling that goes into the Disney attractions. There were just too many simulation rides, and almost EVERY SINGLE RIDE spit on us! Hopefully, Universal will kick it up a notch and give Disney some real competition!

This is going to be interesting. As Disney tries to play up two rides at GE and a handful of others scattered across the parks headed into 2021, Universal is going to be showing pictures and designs of massive construction of an entirely new park that I would presume would include who knows how many rides, attractions, dining options, etc...

Even more so - a ground up build would allow for an unparalleled inclusion of modernized technological options that could run through the entire park.

I will watch this with great interest!

I wonder if each area will be unrelated and connected to different movies . Shrek and How to train a dragon would be great. . Universal needs more for young children and less thrill rides. They also need things that do not break down all the time .

It is time for a new park.

The property where Universal is building the new park is 750 acres. The park will not take up the total acreage, there will be parking and hotels, etc. But it is a pretty good chunk of land to add a theme park.

I do not expect Disney to respond any time soon to this announcement. Everyone knew that Universal was building a new park. Its only a surprise to Disney outsiders who only go once a year (or less). Plus Disney is riding the Star Wars train and doing anything else would distract from it......well played Universal.

I actually think Disney will not be doing anything to respond to the new theme park. There was little information in the press release and Disney already has big money projects going on or finishing up.
