Just asking...was Castaway Cay impacted by Hurricane Dorian?
I heard reports than Nassau was less affected than the rest of the Bahamas.

Seems to have faired pretty good even though it was pretty close to Dorians path . Disney has announced it has reopened the island to guests again .

Disney Announcement .........

Castaway Cay

Castaway Cay has reopened for guests. We continue the process of cleaning up and making repairs related to the tropical storm conditions experienced last week. Guests going ashore will see signs of the recent storm’s passing and some experiences on the island may be unavailable.

I would not judge a cruise by a 3-day one. Everyone is rushing around trying to do and see everything in that short period of time. I am not suggesting you change your cruise, just keep that in mind. A 5 day or more is much more relaxing.

This is just a trial run to make sure we will be ok on a cruise ship ....... sea sickness, vertigo , height of the ship , embarking /disembarking, port feel , dining , getting around a ship , sleeping in a stateroom - etc . Figure since its only 2 days / 3 nights , if something is off and we dont feel comfortable , at least we are off again in a short period of time . If we love it , its going to be an awfully short cruise , and time to start planning a longer one !

O.K. , here is - probably an easy question for all you Disney Cruise experts .......
Data ? We would like to keep in contact with family incase of emergencies via text or , if an emergency , by cell phone. Having never cruised before, we have no idea of how this works .
We do not need to use data , or our phones for internet (we think) . Just texting to keep connected with family .
Does Disney sell a package, or do they have a small plan that is included already ?
Help .........no idea what we are in for on this one !

Thanks .
Doing some research , it appears that each person can get 50mb free while on board if you sign up the first night. Then there are also 100mb, 300mb, 1000mb, etc. packages to purchase as well .
Will have to figure out what we really "need" I guess !

Anyone know if the internet works on Castaway Cay or is it just on the ship ?

Sorry, probably dumb question, but first time and all !

Update -
We decided to change our stateroom location , slightly .
We had reserved a 5E stateroom on deck 6 - 6190 . Heard a few complaints about that room due to the aft mounted LARGE flag that is flown while in port on deck 6 . We were the room directly next to the "flag room" , and sometimes the flag can interfere with views or even blow into and on the adjacent veranda's apparently .
We changed up to deck 7 , stateroom 7194 . Still a 5E stateroom , one deck up with a larger veranda, and dead center of the ship in the aft (above the flag now). Little better views towards both sides of the ship now besides behind . Will be a nice view approaching Castaway Cay ! Should be slightly quieter as well , being further away from deck 5 . Also closer to deck 11 for Cabanas .

Surprisingly , the change was not as easy as I assumed, and I couldn't do it myself online. I Had to call, and they even had to get guest services involved to make the change .
The main issue was that we are just 2 adults in the stateroom , and our original stateroom (6190) did not have the pull down bunk , but the stateroom change we wanted (7194) did have the upper pull down bunk. Disneys computer algorithms for booking , tries to reserve that room for families only due to the extra capacity .

Think we are all set now .

I have been following and did just re-scan quickly... did you mention the date of your cruise?

The biggest surprise first impression was politely waiting for cruise elevator ,just 2of us standing , but when doors opened ,swoosh , people swarmed in barely leaving room for us... I turned to my son and said oh yeah these are Disney people.
Also friendly conversations with strangers to discover So Many on their 5th , 10 th cruise and even cruise travelers going back to back. Getting off a ship to reboard...
My first ever cruise was from DL to WDW via Panama Canal using points as new member. You will LOVE Disney cruise so beware!
And I hate to admit how much fun Bingo was.

We are departing on the August 28th from Port Canaveral on the Fantasy . It is only a 3 night cruise and only goes to Castaway Cay for 2 days in a row .
Should be a good sea trial for us . If we hate it ......its only 3 nights ! lol . If we love it ......well time to look for a longer cruise next time.
