To be sure Hurtigruten is nowhere near a major cruise line. I'm a follower of cruisecritic.com and I'd never heard of it. The Cruise Critic article on this event is here.

This is a shame because Hurtigruten only booked passengers from select countries and took many precautions.

Until an effective vaccine is ready to administer to the world's masses, there is no outrunning or outsmarting this virus; it will touch every corner of the globe and go through the entire population at some point even with the best precautions.

I'm surprised that anyone attempted a cruise this soon.

*Welp* Guess that settles my poll. No Member Cruise for me in June 2021.
Does put a damper on things.

Hurtigruten started as a Norwegian mail ship, I believe, way back in the early 20th century, running up and down the Norwegian coast. Their ships are fascinating and they pick up day trippers as well as extended cruisers. They also have some purpose-built ships for extended cruising.

Anyway, it's a common name in Norway but that's it's market.

Cruising + covid just don't mix.

Here's hoping a vaccine winds up being more like polio than flu - one time for protection versus some percentage of protection needing new one each year.

I have heard of them.....there are actually a bunch of boutique/specialty cruise lines. They are very small ships in the cruise industry, but offer some of the best cruise itineraries out there. They can get into places that all the big cruise ships can not.

Since we are posting about small ship cruising.....The first US cruise started this past Saturday. UnCruise Adventures on Saturday became the first cruise line to resume overnight cruising in U.S. waters since the Covid-19 pandemic shut down global travel in March.T he company's Wilderness Adventurer departed Juneau with 37 passengers and 30 crew for a seven-day cruise on the line's Glacier Bay Adventure itinerary.

Small cruise ships are allow to sail under CDC guidance. CDC's No-Sail Order only applies to ships of 250 passengers and above.

The ship won't visit any ports, and its passengers will be outside and off the boat for most of the trip. Typical days include kayaking around glaciers and fjords, hiking and bushwhacking and taking small-boat excursions for up-close wildlife viewing.

Oh my! I am ways leery of hand rails at WDW 14 days is a long time . I will wait for a vaccine to cruise!

No question. I would go to WDW next week if I could - I wouldn't book a cruise any sooner than 2022!
