Default 3 Chics Take On The World & Beat The Crowds!

THE CAST:
Me, My Mom and Daughter (age 8)

THE ITINERARY:
4 Days and 3 Nights at Animal Kingdom Lodge at Jambo House / Standard View
Monday, April 2 through Thursday, April 5

THE PARKS:
Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios

THE ADRS:
Wolfgang Puck Café, Jiko, Grand Floridian’s Garden View Tea Room, Kona

THE EXTRAS:
A Carriage Ride Tour at Port Orleans And A Makeover FOR DD8 at Pirate’s League

THE TRANSPORTATION:
Driving / About 8 Hours / 504 miles from my mom’s house in South Carolina to WDW

We rolled out of the bed bright and early at 5:00 am on Monday to start our drive to WDW. The bags were already packed, the car was full of gas and we were excited to get on the road and were headed to the interstate by 5:45 am. I only wish I could get DD8 out of bed that easily for school! We made several quick stops along the way for breakfast, lunch and gas.

We arrived at the Animal Kingdom Lodge at about 2:45 pm. The room was READY and my mom and DD spent some time looking around the lobby while I got the valet to load up the bags and then parked the car. My mom was so impressed with the lobby…the huge ceilings, the artwork and artifacts, even the smell… Ahhhhhh …Jambo House…How I miss you already!! There were some cultural representatives with a display of animal horns and tusks. So, we stopped by and took a look and chatted with them before we headed up to the room to get settled in.

I could not wait to see our room. We were low on points for this trip so I booked a standard view. I knew in advance (thanks to all the help from the great folks here on MO) that the view was the luck of the draw…either pool, parking lot or a savannah view that would most likely not actually have any animals.

We entered the room, dropped the few bags we brought up with us and I headed STRAIGHT to the balcony, opened up the curtains and saw…….

Yeeayyy!! SAVANNAH VIEW!!!!!! And, it actually had animals!!! There are 4 different species in the first picture!! We were on the Uzima Savannah in room 5546.

We had about an hour and a half to relax and unpack a few things before we headed over to Port Orleans for a Carriage Ride. My mom did not plan to go to the parks, so I tried to plan some things that we could all enjoy together. And, since price was a factor, I decided to try the carriage ride. It was a 25 minute ride for $45 and can carry up to 4 people...not bad....

And, it turned out GREAT! After a long day in the car, it was very relaxing and peaceful. I can still hear the horse shoees...clip clop...cip clop...clip clop! DD8 almost fell asleep I was so impressed with how pretty this resort was.

Some pictures of us and some of the Resort:

After the carraige ride, we headed over to DTD for dinner at Wolfgang Puck Cafe. I really LOVE The quick service, so I assumed the Cafe would be really great , as well. I was very tempted to just go to the service side for dinner. We usually go to theone in theMarket Place side of DTD. But, in an effort to avoid crowds and long lines, it was Spring Break/Easter week afterall, I made an ADR for 7 pm.

When we arrived at DTD at about 6:45 pm, it did not seem crowded at all. We got a great table a the restaurant with a great view of the lake and SSR in the distance. My mom ordered the Cesar Salad with Bruschetta and I ordered the Endive salad which has pecans and blue cheese. Then we shared Margherita Pizza. DD ordered chicken strips with mashed potatoes with veggies. All of the food was ok. It was not great or awful...it was ok. I was pretty disappointed. I guess I expected more...The service was great , however.

For desert, I got to feast my eyes on Robert Irvine!! That's right...as we were leaving the restaurant, Robert Ivine from Food Network was leaving, as well. My camera was buried in my purse so I did not get to take his picture...but I did get to say a quick HELLO!

This picture is from Google.....sigh

Great trip report! I was so glad to finally meet you in person. I wish that we had of been able to spend more time together but that evil flu bug really sucked the life out of us. We'll catch up with each other again either in NC or WDW!
