We fly the cheapest direct flight we can to MCO. We go all out while visiting the mouse and donít wish to spend one dollar more than we need to on airfare. We have been loyal SW fans for many years. However, their prices are now outrageous. We have tried Frontier...not bad. And, now relying on Spirit more frequently. If you have the right expectations and stick to nonstop, all good.

Trust me, we compare with SW each time. They cant compete these days.

I just picked mid-October from DTW to MCO to compare. Oct 13-21. Sat-sun. Cheapest flights, regardless of scheduled time:

Spirit: $242
Delta: $296, nonstop
American: $321
United: $570, with stops
Southwest: $607, with plane changes

Is the SW customer base so loyal that they'll ignore other options entirely, allowing ridiculous prices?
I'm beginning to think that SW is catering to certain areas of the country over others. Our trip in October from BDL (Hartford, CT) to MCO is $121 each down (direct) and $97 back (direct).
Nobody's gonna beat that price with 2 free checked bags (and always comp'd drinks) included.

It all makes sense given the circumstances. I just couldn't resist working in two more Disney ear worm songs.

Ours were $78 down and $83 back. Both direct, 2 hour (or less) flights.

My last trip to WDW in February, I found a direct flight returning from MCO to RDU on Delta less expensive than SW with a much more convenient time. I had no checked bag, but did pay to pick my seat.
No problems.

Now that Alaska flies nationally you may want to check their price. We fly them along the west coast but haven't tried them to MCO, we have notice that their prices seem decent.

You know I meant "no airline" and not really "nobody". Right?
I think us medical center staff get better deals than anyone else anyway.
Free aspirin, bandaids, consults, slivers removed, etc...

Sorry. I was just agreeing with you about the airline. Wasnít really having a contest over lowest flights! That didnít even cross my mind. Of course, Iím in pre-vacation mode, so...

But your prices show that SW is a leader in some areas.

WELL, I have not talked to DH about this yet, times, etc. But we may end up with SW after all as I have a small credit to use up which would narrow the price difference, and the miles would get us closer to a free ticket on SW as that is what we normally fly. I haven't had a free airline ticket in well, forever.
