We have booked Hotel Colon pre cruise, I like the location, the fact that it is across the street from the Barcelona Cathedral, and it has good reviews on Trip Advisor.

How early does everyone recommend booking a hotel? We need a post-cruise hotel for next June. I can book Hotel Jazz now with a family room for less than $400USD (Disney wants $800, says we need 2 rooms, plus transfers so even more...). Should I book now or wait a bit?

For hotel bookings, I usually would only book that far in advance if it is a refundable rate. Gives you the flexibility to change/cancel if needed. No harm to book now if you are happy with the price.

I've used Hotels.com for some things in the past. Lately we've been booking vacation packages through AA Vacations and including the hotel there, but that's not an option for your case, so Hotels.com is pretty good. A friend has been using Priceline's newish feature where you get very good rates for "hidden" hotels. It's not the bidding thing, but they tell you a lot about the hotel (star rating, amenities, location)- just not the name. And it is one of the hotels that they're also offering by name on their regular page, but up to half off. The few times they've done it they've gotten very nice places.

As for location - Las Ramblas is where to be in BCN.

Cheers.

I booked Casp 74 10 months in advance and then kept checking if the price went lower, in which case they'd honor it (it was a refundable booking ) - our cruise left in August which is the busiest travel month for Barcelona, and I found that the rooms got more expensive and many sold out of preferred types of rooms.

There don't seem to be a lot of hotels that can accommodate a family of 4 and I'd prefer not to have to book 2 rooms. I will keep watching it - and the exchange rate -- as we definitely have time.
