Default Southwest Rapid Rewards Changes

I received an email from Southwest today stating a few changes:

1) Your miles will no longer expire! (YAY!)
2) Starting January 1, 2020, you must earn 125,000 points to earn a companion pass using points which is an increase from the 110,000 points they currently require. (Boo!!!)

Companion pass so so handy. We earned it once and work hard (charge a lot) to keep earning it.

With the companion pass I believe that it starts January 1st each year. Is that correct?

Yes and no.....

Once you earn Companion Pass status, you have the status for the remainder of the year and the entire following year. So if you earn staus in July, its good for the next 18 months.

But the counting of points or flights toward earning the companion pass does start over on Jan 1 of each year.

I hope this means that the miles I have already earned, but haven't used won't expire either. It would be a bummer to say that the points I earned last month will still expire in 11 months, but the points I earn next month aren't expiring. Can anyone tell me if this is true?

I took it to mean no points expire anymore, current or future. They changed the program, so I donít think when you earned the points matters.
