Default Wait list success at HHI?

We would like to do a few nights at Hilton Head this summer, but I've heard it's hard to book at 7 months. Our only option is late June. Ideally we would like 4 nights, but getting at least 2 nights would make it worth it for us to make the trip and maybe combine it with a few days at another resort.

My question is what do you think is the best strategy to get at least 2 nights if we have to do the wait list? Would we be better trying for a 1 bedroom instead of a studio? Is getting a Wed/Thur easier or harder than getting Fri/Sat?

Thanks for the advice.

Weekends are easier to get because the point difference at HHI between weekends and weekdays is kind of biggish. So many people book Sun to Fri. A 1 BR would also be easier. Are you looking to rent or you own another resort? If you are owner, make sure to go online at 8am of the day of the 7 month window...you could even walk it (book now for 7 months from today, June 7 is open, and continually modify to drop and add until you get to dates you want...but you're at risk for owners of HHI to book ahead of your modifying).

Thanks for the advice. I suspected that weekends might be easier to get because of the increased points. I think we may roll the dice and try to waitlist 2 days during the week because that works a bit better with our schedule, but if I can have 2 waitlists I'll probably try for both a one bedroom and studio. Fingers crossed.

We are making our first visit to HHI this summer as well, staying in a non-DVC accommodation, and I am hoping to extend on the front end of that stay with a DVC night or two. Looking at a Thursday and/or Friday in early June, so I'm counting down to the 7 month window opening soon!

Why don't you try to walk the reservation at HHI. Studio is currently available for June 7th, which you can book with other points. Then walk it to the dates you want. Right now, it looks like all of the remaining month of June is available in a studio.

I'm not sure if this suggestion was in response to my post, but if so, my reason for not walking is that I personally don't feel good about that practice. I don't fault or harbor negative feelings toward others for doing it, though.

As a followup question, a friend suggested I call member services at HHI and ask about the possibility of a cash reservation. Does anyone have experience with this? Would they give me a cash reservation even if there are no reservations with points? Does cash reservation have to be done after the 7 month window? I was under the impression that HHI was all DVC and points. Thanks.

You can book as cash resie. Goigle disney hilton head resort and you should find link to book. DVC kerps a certain percent at each resort that they dont sell and can use as cash bookings. Also when dvc members trade inti RCI those resort piints go to cash booking.

I was able to get a studio for three nights for June, no problem and no walking to get the reservation! We are looking forward to our first visit to HHI and wonder if there's enough to do for a 10-night stay overall (we're moving to a non-Disney accommodation for the remaining nights). Thoughts?
