Default JetBlue or Southwest

We are typically Southwest fliers. However, their schedule isn't out yet for January, and I know their flights go quickly. Jet Blue already has their schedule out. MLK weekend. How do the prices typically compare between the two airlines?

The base prices are close, but Southwest doesn't charge extra for luggage. JetBlue typically has a $30 upcharge for the first checked bag.

I have very same experience. I prefer SW in case of rescheduling no extra fee.

Of course if the new flight is more expensive you pay the difference. And closer to departure flights do get more expensive.
But if the new flight is less, you get a credit to use on a future flight.

This is why we got turned onto SW actually. When visiting a relative who was battling cancer, we got slammed each time we tried to change flights. SW was the only carrier that seemed realistic in this regard.
Maybe I will wait for SW to open their schedule and then book something with JB if need be. I don't know.

We are doing the exact same thing MLK weekend. SWA keeps changing the date of those flights. I really enjoy Jetblue but the change fee is outrageous then baggage..but I always compare. A couple of times I did a one way for each of them because of the price and time....and I don't usually cancel but I do check a bag most of the time.

Wait the 16 day till SWA releases their January airfares before booking your airfare.

The sad part...I usually know when they open the schedule ( I know they have been changing dates a lot lately), but it's like a void in my brain in regards to what time the schedule typically goes active. I typically sit there like a hawk, with coffee in hand, and just keep hitting refresh.

I fly both.

JB: assigned seating.
SW: 2 free checked bags.

If I am traveling with just a carry-on, then JB is my preferred.
If I need bags checked, SW can be a better deal depending on availability.

For me, SW has more flights from Austin to MCO, so they usually win on price.

If you buy your SWA tickets early and also pay for EarlyBird, that essentially covers "assigned seating" as you can get great seats when you board.
