Changing reservation across Use Years at 7 months

I have a reservation that spans 2 Use Years. The last days had to be added by a Cast Member (of course). I am thinking of changing the resort at the 7 month mark. What is the best way of doing this?

Should I change it to 2 reservations now (they are still available) - 1 for each Use Year - and make the changes separately? That means I wouldn't be able to change the second part for over a week and potentially could lose out on those days.

Or take a chance on calling at 9:00 and hoping that someone who can modify at 8 am hasn't gotten there first?

I have done this and you have to call to change if spanning. What I have done is just swap out the first few days - as long as availability isn't tight and then call MS to modify the second half to cover the rest. I do try to avoid UY spans because of this but it isn't impossible.

I would definitely swap to two reservations so you don't risk losing any days. What I do not know is if you would have to wait 5-7 days to have two reservations merged or not. I have not tried this since that changed last year.

I called DVC this afternoon, and I now have 2 reservations - one for each Use Year. Hopefully this will work. But at least I now have control again.

Good luck with the switch when the time comes! Unless a super crazy hard to get resort where 7 months would be hard anyway, I've not had issues calling at 9 to get the rest of the room swapped over.
