Default Need Help: Copper Creek -Polynesian or Aluani

Hello all, We need your help,

Trying to decide Resort and UY for our situation
we will be vacationing in January.

As of resorts I would like to know your thoughts on the following resorts:

Copper Creek -Polynesian or Aulani

I loved the villas at Grand Floridian but thatís not available anymore
We want to do it thru Disney and not resale.

Thanks for your thoughts.

We chose CCV
1) Room options. Studio through 3 bedrooms
2) Less points per night
3) love the WL

Aulani was not an option as we are on the east coast. We love Poly but solo studios are tough for our family and we prefer the 2 bedrooms over adjoining studios (kitchen, washer, dryer). I dont think the MF's will be as big of an issue going forward.

Truly don't feel you can go wrong either eay.

Aulani - I would only purchase here if you feel you will be taking several trips to Hawaii. I would not purchase if your main use is Disney World stays.

The other 2, CCV and Poly, I think it comes down to the following considerations:

Poly - Tropical theme, on the monorail, MK views from the pool, beach, and some DVC buildings. DVC buildings are all separate from the main lobby (i.e. outside walkways to get to quick service, monorail, store, etc.). There are no 1-bedrooms, 2-bedrooms, or grand villas, the options are studios or the very expensive bungalows. Poly points to stay per night are higher.

CCV - Wilderness theme, not on the monorail, but has both ferry and bus to MK. CCV is contained within the main lobby building, so no walking outside to get to quick service or store. CCV has all levels of villas, studios, 1-bedroom, 2-bedroom, grand villas, and cabins. It takes fewer points per night than Poly to stay at CCV.

Since you are from New York, Copper Creek.

Plus, in the long rung, Maintenance fees are a huge driver of expenses.

That is about $1 pp difference.

They do sell points from the "sold" out resorts too although there are 3 that you pretty much have to be onsite to buy at the time they have them or constantly call your guide to see. That is VGF, BCV and VGC. Others they still might place you on a waitlist if they don't have points when you call.

So, if VGF is what you really want and won't consider resale then you can ask about it and if you are lucky and they have points they will sell to you.

If there are any of the other resorts that you know you like then you can purchase there too or if they don't happen to have points then probably get on a waitlist. DVC recovers points via ROFR and foreclosures and get points back on ALL the resorts. Guides usually want to just try and sell the resorts DVC is currently selling but if you push they should look at others for you.

Here are the last reported prices per DVCnews.com for the other resorts:

AKV - $165/pt Expires 2057
BLT - $185/pt Expires 2060
BCV/BRV/BWV - $165/pt Expires 2042
OKW - $145/pt - Expires 2057 when bought direct
SSR - $145/pt - Expires 2054
VGC - $185/pt Expires 2060
VGF - $185/pt Expires 2064

1) if it's just you or you are part of a couple -pick the resort you like best
2) if you're a family that's only planning on staying in studios -go with poly (they are bigger and there's more of them)
3) if you're a family of 5 who doesn't want to always stay in 2 bedrooms, go with poly
4) family who likes/needs to have room size options -ccv

My preference Copper Creek. Low MF as of now. Low point per night for Studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom. GV and Cabins are expensive but you will also have a chance to splurge if you want too.

Being east coatser I would not suggest Aulani until unless you a frequent visitor of west coast.

This might not be the best way to make your decision but aside from the location and ease of access, I made a spreadsheet before making my decision and factored in:

(Price per Point/Years Left on Contract)+Annual Dues = Annual Cost per point

AND

[(Total Cost of Contract Including Closing Fees/Points)/Years Left on Contract)+ Annual Dues = Actual Annual Cost per Point

I also did a worst case scenario projection of Annual Dues increasing by 5% per year to project the price per point across the next 7 years.

Then I factored in the average cost per night per point at each potential home resort based on the time of year I typically travel and the room type I would want to use.

__________

After doing that math, I came to the conclusion that the Polynesian was the right fit for our family. We usually travel as a party of 2 or 3 and the studio was big enough for us. We also bought another contract via resale at a resort with better rates of average points per night and average price per point.
