Just heard back from my guide, who tells me my new points purchase should close by September 19...so just about exactly two weeks after I paid/signed all the paperwork/got the points in my account.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and help.

That's exactly what mine was as well a few months ago. Just a few more days and you can do the transfer at least

Your contract will close after your 10 day cooling off period expires. That means your signed documents are back at Disney, and 10 days following that. Before it closes, you can make reservations, bank and borrow. But no points in or out. If the 10 days are up but they haven't closed on their end, call and they can probably speed it up. The 10 days is statutory and that's why they make you wait - if you rescind, unwinding transfers is a bigger issue than just pulling your contract back into inventory.

I had this exact scenario - my guide had to go find out, said nobody had ever asked before!

Makes sense. I've thought about an add on onsite before and if a person could use the points right away- with the cooling off period of 10 days doesn't sound like this is feasible.

I think you can use your 10 points right away. Just can't transfer in or out. I made my first reservation before the contract closed. There's a paragraph in there that spells out what happens if you use your points (meaning complete a stay) before closing and then back out, and it's essentially paying Disney for the value of that stay. So the scenario is contemplated in the contract.

Yep, you can use your points right away. In May they used all the 2016 and 2017 points (and putting all other used points back into their original UY) the day I purchased. I hadn't even signed the paperwork yet and they redid the reservation.
