And I'm on the wait list for DCV for the first week in October of this year, for all of you experienced members, what are the chances I'll actually get a villa or should I just book paradise pier with my points?
So your home resort is Poly and you have a Dec UY?
Your questions depend on how many points you bought and how many points the ressie you booked requires. Also on whether or not you will be banking any 2015 points.
I am guessing you are using your Dec 2015 points for your plans in Oct 2016. It sounds like the Oct vacation is in CA, so I assume your waitlist is for VGC? If it's at VGC, your wait list chances aren't great. You would need to post your dates and type of room, but just generally speaking VGC is tough to get into if you don't own there.
Your Jan 2017 ressie would probably be using your Dec 2016 points. Without more information though, I dont know for sure.

Yes my home resort is poly. I bbought in with 150 points and my use year is Dec. Yeah we're going to CA this Oct 2-8. If I can't stay at VGC I will probably just bank my points until next year. II've been reading a lot about paradise pier and am not sure if I should use my points to book with them or just stay at a good neighbor hotel .It seems like it gets a lot of mixed reviews. Having never been to Disneyland I'm not sure if it's worth using the points.

I have a banking question (after the example)

Lets say I have 100 banked points from 2016 UY and want to book a 150 point resort during 2017 UY.
This would mean that I will use 50 (from 100) points from 2017 UY.
If, at 7mo, I wanted to change my resort and the new resort costs me just 100 points (i.e. my 2016 UY banked points).
My question is will I be able to bank the 50 points I used to make the initial reservation, to my 2018 UY?

The answer is yes. Assuming your contract is 100 points for this example, You will have

2017 UY - 200 points (100 banked from 2016)

The reservation will use your banked 2016 points first, and 50 points from 2017. If you then change your plans and only use 100 points, the 100 points from 2017 that were not the banked points from 2016 can be banked.

You would just need to make sure when the reservation is changed they return the 50 points to your 2017 UY and not the banked 2016 points.

Thank you for clearing this issue up. I will make sure that they return the 2017 points and not the 2016 banked points, but this surely has to be done 'automatically'.

No, I believe the CM's must determine which use year to use in order to prevent you from losing points. While they are trained to do this, mistakes happen. At least this is my understanding based on previous posts on the board. Banked points would take priority over current use year points when it comes time to use them.

Again, they are trained to do this, but for peace of mind I would make sure that's what happens.

Sorry if this has basically been answered in this thread already.

If I buy an October UY to travel in January, I can book the previous February (11 months, home resort), because I will have UY points at the time I travel. Correct?

As stated, CM's do make mistakes and we've learned the hard way to always double-check our points to make sure they didn't make one after every request.

Yes, correct. As stated by OP:

"CAN I BOOK A TRIP IF MY USE YEAR HASN'T STARTED?

New owners get tripped up and confuse Use Year with when they can book a reservation. Use Year month has nothing to do with when you can travel or even make a reservation at a DVC resort. You can always reserve 11 months ahead of travel for your home resort, and 7 months ahead for other DVC resorts. The reservation date simply determines which Use Year the points are deducted from.

To reiterate, Use Year has nothing to do with when you may call to make a reservation. All of your points are actually in your account. You do not have to wait until your use year begins to make a reservation. You just have to match your vacation dates to the Use Year it falls within, and then make sure you have enough points in that Use Year to make the desired reservation.

Again, let’s use another example. Let's say you want to stay in March of 2016 and your stay will cost 200 points. March 2016 falls within your 2015 use year (9/1/2015 – 8/31/2016). So for a March 2016 vacation, the current use year is 2015. For that reservation, you may use the current use year points from the 2015 use year, any banked points originally from your 2014 use year and you may borrow points from your 2016 use year.

If you plan to stay at your home resort, you can call to make the reservation for March 2016 in April of 2015 (11 months in advance), even though your 2015 Use Year doesn't begin until September 1, 2015. Again, Use Year has nothing to do with when you can call to make the reservation."
