I thought long and hard about using the Dining Plan on our May trip. I researched. I scoured menus. I used the calculator. I considered multiple scenarios. I measured the Dining Plan against TiW against existing discounts for DVC and AP. There was one scenario in which the dining plan came out head. There were a couple of scenarios in which I would have essentially broke even. In a couple of scenarios I would lose money.
I've done the math multiple times and always end up with the same result - we simply never would save money based on the ways we actually eat.

DDP also is charged for your last day of trip which for us is spent at the airport most times (usually fly out at 11AM so ME pick up 3 hours ahead), so you are paying for a dining plan for a day you will not use it.

Look forward to a day when you can use your refillable mug at the parks. I live near Cedar Point and they have a refillable mug program that is good all season for $30! Of course, Cedar Point is only open 5 months out of the year though.

The dining plan is for each night of your stay. They donít figure it by the day.

Correct. In our case that wouldn't be a problem as we are usually on property by lunch time of day 1 so can use that night's credits that day. I will say one great thing about the plan is that you just get a lump deposit of credits for your reservation to be used however and whenever you want prior to midnight on your last day.

I think in almost no cases will the dining plan work if you leave behind even a couple of snack credits. As they say in a Disney food battle, "No credit left behind."

That's a very important aspect to me. The Dining Plan should not force you to eat differently. It's already enough stress on vacation. Meals are my time to relax and get it together. If I were to use the dining plan, I need to be able to order what I want without worrying about whether I'm leaving money on the table. The margin for victory is so slim, it's just better not to engage for us.

You are charged by night, not by day of your trip. So if you have a 2 night stay you are charged for 2 "days" of DDP. Since we usually arrive by lunch and leave at night it helps us get better use out of the plan. We may split a QS lunch and do a TS for dinner on arrival day then split another QS on departure day. Or skip a TS on arrival day and use it for breakfast or lunch on departure day.

Default Tried the middle level a few years ago

Now I have an ample potato and poteen sized stomach bot I swear I pu on 40 lbs when we we built it into our three week stay at BWV.
My wife says that if we ever do it again the long corridors of Bwv would not be long enough and she would make me walk from the back of OKW ,if I was going to make a pig of myself no buses just walking .

I did one year . I used all my snacks on the food and wine booths .

It was the last time I used a dining plan. It is never cost effective for me .

Like Sherry, we use our Snack credits at the booths. One year we had an extra QS meal and converted it to 3 Snack credits. We use on those items over $5, so I don't think we are losing too much money, if we do that. I think you just need to discover what works well for you. We usually do a split stay, with not all days on the plan. We'll start w one of the plans to get our mug and eat OOP the last couple of days. One trip we stayed one night in a studio before moving to another resort. We did the DDP for that reservation, w TS that night, breakfast TS and another dinner TS. We then used our snacks at the Boardwalk Bakery. It was not a win for Disney, IMO.

When we first used to do the Dining plan (when we did character meals and buffets a lot, ) we ended up with extra snack credits and would use them on take home snacks from the gift shops.
Then I discovered Les Halles in France......last couple times on DDP, I'd just go on in there, and use them all in one fell swoop, take out box of desserts for the week. Sometimes would pick up a few things at Kringla in Norway. Easy to just use them all, and have delicious snacks in room for the stay.
We never got to try to use a QS for 3 credits at a festival booth. That would be a great use if you want all the items there, or 3 of the same, or whatever.
